Editor’s Note: re: replacing lights often — it’s not necessarily the technology that I’m concerned about when I warn of buying cheap, but more of the reliability. All gear, regardless of price can be susceptible to failure or getting lost, etc. Buying higher end gear usually lessens that risk, and in the event that it does, there’s usually a good warranty and a reputable company behind it. The light I EDC now was the first mass produced light to use the CREE XP-G R5, and although some companies are just catching up to this technology, there are brighter lights available. For EDC, though, there’s only a certain amount of light you need, so because my light still works I have no real urge to upgrade it, especially since it performs so well. With that said, keep working with what you got if you feel it fits your needs. The great thing about EDC is the diversity, as no two people have the exact same daily needs.
