I was actually just looking at purchasing one of those German Trench Lighters on Amazon to replace the peanut lighter I recently lost. The peanut lighter had an O-ring that allowed the cap to seal well enough to keep the lighter fluid from evaporating. I couldn't tell from the reviews how long yours would keep fluid. There's often up to 4-6 weeks between my uses. The peanut would still have fluid and light. Will yours?

Love those peanut lighters, and I don't think (as far as fluid is concerned) there is probably not a better seal out there. I do try to time these things a bit... Peanut lighter wins hands down. It's still early but so far i'm getting about two weeks. The odd thing is that the top cap is really a snuffer more than a sealant from what I see with mine. Yet, it still holds it's fuel pretty long. the other aspect of it is the fluid part of the container has a great seal but of course does not hold that much. I think you are safe if you fill it within one week. I love getting lost in the woods, so I also love the fact that it's a one handed sparker. The spark is pretty solid so I could use it to start fires even if my fuel was out. I bought mine for like $39 from Urban EDC... but there may be better builds out there. I did not research this much, but they are beautiful I think and unique in how they open. Hope this helps!

Those peanut lighters look awesome. Love the stonewash. If you remember, would love to find out your thoughts on your purchases when you get a chance to put them to the test. Those are great prices, look great, and should last forever. Thanks for sharing.

So, I received the TrueUtility and Titanium Peanut. The TrueUtility for me is hands down the clear winner between the two. They have similar build quality - the actual lighter module that slips inside is nicer than what was in the cheap-o peanut I lost - but the fit and finish of the TrueUtility one is superior. The titanium peanut presented much better in the online pics than in person. The stonewashed/ brushed metal exterior looked grungy right out of the package. There is no ring/ chain/ clip of any sort to allow you to attache the lighter to a keychain or whatever. Just the hole in the stem on the top of the cap. The $4 Chinese cheap-o I lost came with two different clips a split ring and a short bead chain for a variety of attachment options.

I know it doesn't have anything to do with the function of the tool (lighter) but the packaging of the TrueUtility is nice. It comes in a waterproof stash box that will come in quite handy. The titanium - at twice the price - comes in a shitty clear plastic fold-over bag that has the ligher and spare flint/ wick tossed in. No presentation, packaging, instructions - nothing. The TrueUtility doesn't come with spare anything, but I still prefer it. Besides, when's the last time you actually went completely thru a flint. Odds are you'll misplace the spares that come with the titanium long before you need it.

I'll be returning the titanium lighter and one of the two TrueUtility lighters that were sent - somehow, the order quantity got increased.

The Trench Lighter still has yet to arrive. It ships from China. I don't expect to return it. I may carry it as an alternate option for special occasions. I'm a Clamper (ECV) and we tend to like to carry odd bits like that when we get together.

killer write up, thank you for the details. I would have 100% been fooled by the brushed Ti lighter. TrueUtility is such a great product and I could not agree more about the packaging. Feel like this is something I would argue with business partners over if I owned that company "we must package this in a waterproof container..." Thank you for taking the time, and I agree with the odd bits, fun and character building and I could see it mixing very nicely in the Clamper environment.
