When it comes to my day-to-day, I try to carry as little as possible. Phone, keys, wallet, headphones — one set of items (wallet+cash is one item) in each of my 4 pockets.

Running an company, the iPhone lets me keep in touch with clients and coworkers. Subway card at the ready to jump from place to place, and the quick-access to cash for trips to the bodgea. And, of course, the earphones with a built in mic let me take calls and listem to music wherever I am.

Josh, you absolutely nailed the minimal approach for an NYC carry especially. MUJI gear, a caseless phone, and barebones keyring all keep it simple. The wear on that Hard Graft cardholder is beautiful too. Do you pocket those keys? I doubt the bulge out too much but you can look into adding a very small suspension clip from TEC Accessories to hang them in your pocket:

The keys actually fit in my back pocket, though they tend to wear a hole in my jeans eventually.
