Pocket flippers with their rapid deployment and general fidget-friendliness have become one of the most popular choices for EDC. Every year, a slew of designs get introduced, bringing the style into even more pockets and setups. What sets CIVIVI’s new Mini Bullmastiff apart is its choice of blade style. Its stonewashed cleaver-style blade snaps out via flipper tab thanks to the smooth bearings in the pivot and the leverage provided by the weight of the blade itself. If you’re a fan of flippers then this is the chopper’s choice for your next EDC.

Make no mistake about it, that 3" long and 1.5" tall blade is a big—even aggressive—EDC choice and provides you with a lot of slicing and chopping power, especially for food preparation and outdoor tasks. It’s flat ground from 9Cr18MoV, a higher-end, yet still affordable stainless steel with high corrosion- and wear-resistance, as well as great edge retention—perfect for a knife that’s built for utility out in the field. A built-in finger choil lets you choke up on the blade during use, providing an alternative grip for when you want a bit more precision and control.

There’s ample room on its 4.25" handle for a secure purchase and comfortable ergonomics. It features a lanyard hole for optional cordage, while a color-matched backspacer stabilizes the flow-through design. Retracting the blade is a simple disengagement of a liner lock mechanism, built into skeletonized liners to save weight. Overall, the knife offers a simple and utilitarian look, accented by the fuller-like groove that runs down the length of the blade, another weight-saving technique.

The textured but otherwise unadorned G10 handle scales further enhance the pragmatic look. Only the CIVIVI logo on the show side pivot cap provides a subtle form of branding on the knife. On the flipside, a skeletonized and reversible deep-carry pocket clip provides you two practical ways to carry the Mini Bullmastiff: use it to clip the knife onto the hem of your pants or bag pocket, or string it up with a lanyard for easy access from deep in your pocket or pack, better hand retention while in use, and a bit of personalization to make the knife yours.

If you’re looking for the utility of a beefy cleaver blade, but want it portable enough to carry in your pocket or your EDC pack, at 3.5 ounces, the CIVIVI Mini Bullmastiff is a tough and dependable companion like its namesake. Get your own in one of three handle color options: Black, Blue, or OD Green at the link below.
