Fenix E16 EDC Flashlight

As flashlight tech gets better and better, the market for an EDC light gets more and more competitive. Some differentiate by being as compact as possible for ease of carry, while some just want to scorch some retinas with sheer lumen power. Few can do both, much less do it well. Fenix are one of those few. With the E16 EDC Flashlight, they push the possibilities of power and portability of a pocket light. With unique features and unprecedented output from a torch that's only 2 inches, it sets the bar for an everyday, usable light that fits into any carry.

Rather than just an emitter into a tube of anodized aluminum, Fenix manages to fit in a few unique touches to E16's tiny frame. This includes cooling vents built into the light's head, along with a vertical textured knurling pattern to help keep the light in your hands. A stainless steel side switch controls its 5 output levels, with a Cree XP-L Hi LED able to emit 3 lumens for up to 110 hours on Low with a CR123A battery, or up to 700 lumens for over 1 hour of total runtime on High with a 16340 rechargeable cell.

Space is a premium for a light of this size, and Fenix made sure none of it goes to waste. Starting with its reflector, it comes in at a minimal 3mm, saving a ton of space on the light's head. A 3-way pocket clip allows for tip up, tip down, or lanyard carry, giving you plenty of ways to carry it, including as a psuedo-headlamp when attached to the brim of a cap. Its tail is able to tailstand while integrating both a lanyard point attachment and a magnetic base for even more utility. And even though the E16 weighs in at a featherweight 2.6 ounces, it still comes with IP68-rated dust resistance and water ingress protection up to 2 meters for 30 minutes.

While the compact EDC flashlight space is getting crowded, the E16 is a heavy-duty contender that takes up no space at all. Pick one up from the Amazon link below.

Fenix LD02 V2 Penlight

Before we had keychain-sized pocket rockets we have today, EDCers would rely on a trusty AAA light to hit the sweet spot between performance and portability. Fenix led the way with their nearly bombproof E01 and their more feature-packed LD02, and after much anticipation they've updated the latter with improvements all around. To make an impact in 2018, the Fenix LD02 V2 sports an entirely new look and unique features even discerning flashaholics can appreciate.

While the 1xAAA form factor is a dying breed these days, it's still a great format for general EDC. The LD02 V2 measures in at a very pocket friendly 3.6” long, 0.5” diameter, and weighs only 24 grams without a battery. The LD02 V2 uses anodized aluminum for the main body of the light, but sports stainless steel at the business end for impact resistance. The first of many of the LD02 V2's unique design cues is its stainless steel push button assembly at the rear of the light, giving a robust and premium feel in hand. A snug, stainless steel pocket clip rounds out the build, letting you carry it in your shirt pocket or in the admin panel of a bag or EDC pouch like you would a pen.

Unlike most EDC lights, the LD02 V2 features both a 90-CRI warm white CREE XQ-E HI emitter for general use and a 200mW UV light for specialized tasks like checking currency. The main warm white emitter puts out up to 70 lumens on High, 25 lumens on Medium, and 1 lumen on Low for 75 hours off a single alkaline or NiMH AAA battery.

With its uniquely useful LED combination, convenient battery type and form factor, and premium build quality, the new and improved LD02 V2 makes a strong case for EDCing a light of this class in a modern EDC. Check it out at the Amazon link below.

Fenix UC35 V2.0

If you're still changing your flashlight's batteries in 2018, it might be time for an upgrade. With a modern light, keeping a charge is as easy as plugging in your phone, thanks to built-in USB ports and new battery technology. Fenix was one of the first to introduce this with their UC35, which was based on an EDC crowd favorite, the PD35. They've updated it further in 2018 with all-new specs to give you the performance you need. The UC35 V2.0 is a great light made smaller, brighter, more versatile, and longer lasting than its predecessor.

The original UC35 was a great light in its own right, but the V2 still manages to squeeze in significant improvements. For starters, its redesigned body is 10mm shorter overall with a more centered grip section on the barrel for comfort and control. As for output, the V2 opts for a CREE XP-L HI V3 emitter to push 1000 lumens out 266 meters, slightly edging out the original's 960 lumen output and 200 meter throw. The V2's larger 3500mAh 18650 Li-ion battery (included) combined with an all-new 1-lumen Moonlight mode results in an impressive 800 hours of runtime. The V2 cycles through its 5 modes with an upgraded stainless steel side switch with an integrated battery level indicator.

You'll still find plenty of features you'd expect from a quality EDC light in the new UC35, like a tactical tail switch, hard-anodized aluminum construction, IP68-rated water resistance, and built-in micro-USB charging. If you still prefer primary cells for your flashlight, like for use in colder environments, the UC35 V2 also accommodates two CR123a batteries. Check out the UC35 and all its features in full detail at the link below.

Fenix Halberd T5Ti Tactical Pen

They say the pen is mightier than the sword. But all too often with tactical pens, designers take that as a challenge. What you get is less of a writing instrument and more of an intimidation tool that draws way too much unwanted attention. The new Fenix T5Ti Halberd tactical pen is different. It's the perfect choice for someone who wants to carry a tactical pen a bit more discreetly. It features a useful tactical design made of premium materials that also looks as good as it writes.

It all starts with the Fenix Halberd's CNC-finished TC4 titanium alloy body. It has a thoughtful ergonomic shape that sits well in your hand as you write. Unlike most tactical pens, it's not blacked out and covered in wicked sharp edges. To the untrained eye, the Halberd will look like a classy pen in your hand, and that's a good thing. At 5.4 inches long, it's the right size for both writing and tactical use. The titanium construction lets it remain lightweight in your pockets at a mere 1.4 ounces. It's also strong and resistant against the elements, making it a pen that you can take anywhere. And because of its pressurized Schmidt P950M ink cartridge, you can write anywhere with it too.

Plus, the machined grip surfaces on the body give you solid control even when things get wet or slippery. That's important for tactical use, which brings us to the other half of the equation. The solid construction of the pen lets you leverage it as a striking tool. It also features a tungsten strike bezel tip that can help when you need to poke and prod in an aggressive manner. The strong tip also functions as a glass breaker, making the pen useful as a rescue tool in an emergency.

If you're looking for a defensive tactical pen that can look good and write well, the Fenix Halberd is for you. It's available in grey, blue, and purple titanium finishes. You can pick one up bundled with Fenix's legendary bombproof E01 flashlight at the link below.

Fenix CL09

If you're looking to illuminate a wide area, a lantern is what you need. They’re purpose-built to do the job, and they'll do it better than a standard flashlight. Now you might think a lantern would too big to EDC, but a modern LED light like the new Fenix CL09 is so compact it fits in the palm of your hand. With all its features, it makes for a great outdoor companion, emergency lamp, or task light for general EDC.

Despite its small 3" size, the CL09 puts out a max of 200 lumens spread out an even 33 feet around you with its diffuser. You can pick between four different output levels and three colors with its simple twisty tail cap. The standard light is a nice neutral white, but there are also red and green light output modes to preserve nightvision or as a signal for camping companions. On its lowest one-lumen setting, the light will last up to 90 hours of continuous use with the included battery.

The thoughtful design of the light makes it easy for you to bring around and use everyday. It has a loop that lets you hang it above you as you work, or to keep around you with a lanyard. The rear cap is magnetic, which is especially useful if you want to attach it underneath the hood of your car in a pinch. Even maintaining the light is easy. It comes with a Fenix USB-rechargeable battery which accepts a standard microUSB cable. The light also accepts 16340 and CR123A batteries. Using a CR123A battery, by the way, increases the runtime of the one-lumen setting out to an astounding 150 hours.

Don't let the size fool you, this is a durable outdoor light. The Fenix CL09 benefits from hardy aircraft-grade aluminum construction. It's impact resistant rated to survive a hard one meter drop. And because it's an outdoor light, it's also designed to be IP68 waterproof. That means it's rated to survive immersion in two meters of water for up to 30 minutes.

With the Fenix CL09, you get an excellent compact EDC light made for wide area illumination. It's the right tool for the job and it's available in two different colors: black and gray. Purchase the one you want and see it in action for yourself at the link below.
