Pioneer Flyfold Wallet

When it comes to picking a great EDC wallet, it all comes down to finding the right balance for your needs. Some wallets are made of metal to keep them slim and strong, but they're not the most comfortable and can't carry cash that well. Pioneer's latest wallet, the Flyfold, takes a more balanced approach. It's a familiar bifold design, meaning it can accommodate cards and cash with ease, but made with cutting edge construction and futuristic fabrics to keep it worthy of your EDC.

The Flyfold's technical fabrics and construction are what sets it apart from other wallets in its class. At the core of Pioneer's 10XD fabric are fibers 10 times stronger than steel by weight, resulting in a material that's totally waterproof, highly abrasion resistant, and uniquely grippy thanks to its densely woven nylon ripstop exterior. This material is more comfortable to carry and easier to grip than metal, yet more durable and lighter weight than leather. To match the advanced materials, Pioneer uses advanced construction methods on the Flyfold too. Lamination of the material and seams cuts significantly on bulk compared to traditional sewing methods, while bartack reinforcements at high stress points make the wallet especially robust.

All this technology lets the Flyfold take on a more familiar form factor of a traditional bifold without the usual drawbacks like getting bulky or wearing out. Its full-length billfold section easily fits notes with no folding necessary, making carrying cash a non-issue compared to most minimalist wallets. Two internal RFID-secure card slots are sized to hold 5 cards each (10 total) with enough space to fan the cards out for quick and easy access.

If you want a high-tech, nearly indestructible minimalist wallet that's as easy to use as your old favorite leather bifold, the Flyfold might be the one for you. Pioneer Matter Wallet

While the rest of us are looking forward to new gear in 2018, the future-forward gear makers at Pioneer are debuting a wallet collection that looks straight out of 2049. Dubbed the 10XD ONYX Collection, it gets its name from its unique, blacked-out material made with fibers 10X stronger than steel by weight. This ultra-durable material and other advanced manufacturing techniques come together in a new style: the Matter Wallet. It's a minimalist wallet based on a slim cardholder silhouette with enough storage to carry cash without the need for a bulky, dedicated billfold compartment.

The Matter wallet's slimness isn't just a result of its design alone. It's the ripstop material—ultra high molecular weight polyethylene—that provides durability and structure to the wallet without the need for much bulk or extra material. Besides being durable, it's also lightweight, waterproof, and abrasion resistant.

Materials aside, the Matter's pocket layout itself does a good job of balancing storage and low bulk. It's like a cross between a cardholder and a bifold with two vertically oriented card slots on either side for quick access. Behind those are pockets sized just large enough to accommodate once-folded cash or less frequently used cards. By eliminating a billfold section, the wallet can keep a trim 2.75” x 2.5” footprint when closed. And at just 1 oz., it's a solid middle ground for EDCers wanting a minimalist wallet that can still carry some cash.

You can pick up the Matter in the new black-on-black Onyx color way as well as the original black/white and blue/white versions at the link below.

Dango P01 Pioneer Wallet

Dango have impressed us before with their unique and high-quality takes on the everyday wallet. They pair their eye for minimalist and functional design with top-shelf materials to bring you wallets that are impressive to both look at and use. With their third crowdfunded wallet the P01 Pioneer, they've set their sights on consolidating your EDC essentials in one package, keeping your cards, cash, and most importantly, your ideas within reach.

Like all of their wallets, Dango starts with the materials. For the Pioneer's wallet section, they've sourced Italian vegetable-tanned leather that's cut, sewn, and assembled in a factory part of the SFMade Organization out of the Bay Area. It's got RFID-blocking material laminated into the leather, and with the included silicone band and room for up to 20 cards, gives you flexibility with how to carry your essentials. This includes compatibility with a compact 24-page notebook as well as their separate MT02 one-piece multi-tool.

The P01's custom pen is CNC-machined out of 6061 aluminum to keep it light and compact, with an anodized finish for extra durability. It takes a Schmidt's 4889M pressurized ink refill, but is also compatible with Fisher Space Pen refills which should please plenty of EDCers. The pen's tail end also comes slotted with a paracord lanyard, giving it easy retrieval and compatibility with other split rings or keychains.

Dango's P01 is certainly out to live up to its name, blazing a trail towards gear that's a cut above the rest while down to business with improving your carry. They've just launched the project on Kickstarer, so be sure to check it out at the link below.

Pioneer Ion Wallet

Review

These days, minimalist wallets are a dime a dozen. And even the best wallets you can carry are still made of leather, a material that's been around for ages. While leather breaks in nicely and has a timeless quality to it, it can inevitably wear out and weigh you down. It's possible the next frontier of wallets doesn't use leather at all, and Pioneer is blazing the way. As part of their 10X series, the Ion Wallet combines futuristic materials and high-tech manufacturing processes to push the envelope of this EDC staple.

Victorinox Pioneer Nespresso Swiss Army Knife

"Wonder where those Nespresso pods you send off for recycling end up? A few got repurposed as part of the Victorinox Pioneer Nespresso Swiss Army Knife. Uniquely, the bronze-colored scales of the knife are made of aluminum recycled from 24 of the coffee pods, bearing a Nespresso badge on the flip side of the Victorinox logo, as well as a stamp on the base of its blade to constantly remind you. Besides the latter, the knife also bears all the same features as the classic pioneer, also including a reamer and..." (via GearHungry)
