5.11 Tactical Rapid Origin Pack

The best EDC bags can do a little of everything, but so many bags recently seem to be prioritizing low-key designs over all-out toughness. That isn’t the case with the 5.11 Tactical Rapid Origin pack. While it's built to be mission-ready, it's got the just the right size and features for day-to-day duty as well. If you’re looking for a lightweight and durable backpack for your daily grind as well as your next weekend adventure, this one checks all the boxes.

Unlike other tactical packs that use ballistic nylon so heavy it's almost overkill, the Rapid Origin features a 600D polyester build that's lightweight yet plenty tough. At 25L, it's sized right for daypack duty, but comes strapped with MOLLE webbing along the front and sides. That modularity comes in handy when you need to add on more gear. For example, you can attach a discreet EDC pouch with charging cables and pens to bring into the office during the week, then swap it out for a first aid kit and survival gear when you hit the trails on the weekend.

If you’d rather maintain the slim profile of the bag you can always make use of the two mesh pockets on the inside for organizing your smaller essentials (or for hiding snacks). There’s also a built-in water bottle holder on the inside for daily use, but when you’re really going to be pushing yourself one water bottle might not be enough. So along the back 5.11 made sure to include a compartment that’s hydration pack compatible so you won’t have to worry about finding drinking water while you’re out exploring.

When you’re not adventuring this day pack makes for a solid office pack as well thanks to a padded laptop sleeve in the main compartment. There’s also a zippered front pocket for smaller tools that you might need quick access to as well as a glasses compartment up top that’s lined with a soft fleece material to prevent scratches.

Whatever your intended use case, the bag remains comfortable thanks to padded ergonomic straps that naturally follow the curves of your body. When you’re hauling a little more than usual, you can save yourself some back pain by buckling up the chest strap to distribute the weight. Last but not least, hook-and-loop sections on the front of the pack let you customize the bag with name tape, morale patches (tactical gnome, anyone?), and more.

If you want one bag for both work and play, the 5.11 Tactical Rapid Origin pack is a versatile option that makes the transition from workday to weekend as seamless as possible. You can pick one up at the link below.

Does polyester is strong enough to replace nylon?

Where did the patch come from? I don't need the backpack but damn if I don't need an armed gnome patch :)
