My work requires significant transitions. It's not uncommon for me to spend the early morning plowing on the tractor, the late morning/early afternoon mashing and distilling whisky, the afternoon driving to bars and restaurants to make sales and the evening hosting a whisky dinner at a Michelin-rated restaurant. My core EDC needs to be able to transition from rugged to refined as quickly as I do. Over the years I've come to love the combination of natural veg tan leather and solid copper. They have the advantages of both looking good together and looking better the harder you use them. I carry other things in each of my roles, but this is always my baseline. Tough and timeless.
