With a 35-year legacy behind the brand, the G-Shock has earned its place as an everyday staple from its inception as a watch designed to never break. Every generation of the watch pushes the envelope of design and tech, but for this historic anniversary, Casio have melded past and present in the new DW-5900BB-1. Taking an iconic design from G-Shock's early days and giving it the ultimate tactical aesthetic, it's a great nod to history while having the design and construction to live long into the future.

The first thing to notice about the DW-5900BB-1 is its face—this isn't a model or design commonly seen as a G-Shock reissue. The pawprint-like design in its original colors hearkens back to the first G-Shock, the DW-5000, while the three subdials gave a glimpse into the later, insanely popular DW-6900 design. In this new blackout colorway, however, the design takes on a more tactical tone, with the subdials more reminiscent of night-vision goggles than the retrofuturistic original.

On the inside, the DW-5900BB-1 comes with all the staples you would expect from a modern G-Shock. The rugged case and band come in resin, the former of which is sealed and rated shock- and waterproof to 200 meters. The usual battery of timekeeping functions are present, including world time, a stopwatch, timer, and 5 daily alarms, rounded off by the signature electro-luminescent backlight.

Whether used as an aesthetic accessory or as a truly tough timepiece, there's no questioning that the G-Shock is a watch for the ages. Pick up the new DW-5900BB-1 from Amazon from the link below, and be sure to check out the rest of the anniversary blackout series too.
