When looking for the perfect EDC bag for you, it’s important to look beyond the usual offerings from tactical and military brands. You might find what you’re after in bags designed for demanding sports and activities, like cycling or even rock climbing. Fortunately more and more brands from the outdoors industry are taking their adventure-ready design chops to urban EDCers with “city-to-mountain” crossover gear. Take Arc’teryx’s new Arro 8 Shoulder Bag for example: it brings the high-performance materials and design cues from the brand’s iconic Arro hiking pack to a more modern silhouette designed for urban EDC.

The Arro 8 debuts as an all-new silhouette in the Arro lineup of bags, filling a useful niche as a shoulder bag for just the essentials when commuting around town or traveling with an 8L total capacity. Like its bigger brother, the Arro 22 backpack, the Arro 8 shoulder bag sports a 420d Cordura nylon construction that’s durable yet light enough for EDC as its base. For weather resistance, the Arro 8’s front compartment features a laminated WaterTight zipper and a water-resistant 210d plain weave nylon. This mix of materials strikes an ideal balance between structure, flexibility, durability, and weatherproofness as needed in a daily carry bag.

As far as storage goes, the Arro 8 splits its 8L into the weatherproof front pocket for quick access and a more spacious and organized main compartment accessible via a zippered roll top. The main compartment features drop pockets for essentials like your phone, notebook, and pen, as well as a zippered internal pocket for securing smaller, loose items. The main cavity of this compartment can even accommodate a larger tablet.

Between its low-profile shoulder strap and its integrated top carry handle, the Arro 8 offers multiple ways to carry as you see fit. Multiple webbing adjustors on the shoulder strap (combined with a padded back panel) let you dial in a comfortable fit and compress the pack down depending on how much you’re carrying, too.
