Cleaver-style blades that you can actually carry have been coming back in a big way over the past couple years. They bring their own unique utility out from the kitchen to many EDCers’ pockets, whether it’s general cutting tasks or food prep around the campfire. While these pocket cleavers have generally been available as folding knives, sometimes you need a fixed blade to get the job done — especially in the outdoors. That's why CRKT took their popular neck knife, the Minimalist, and updated it with an on-trend cleaver blade. If you've wanted to see what all pocket cleaver hype is about but need a fixed blade, the CRKT Minimalist Cleaver makes for a viable and more affordable alternative to custom-made options for your EDC.

The Minimalist series of knives from CRKT are a collaboration with custom knife designer Alan Folts, renowned for his focus on everyday usability and comfortable ergonomics in his designs. This latest iteration of the Folts Minimalist features a cleaver-style blade that is good for chopping and slicing, while maintaining a more utilitarian and less aggressive look, perfect for keeping a low profile while using the knife in public.

The bead-blasted 2.125“ blade comes with a full tang mated to green micarta handles which provide good traction even when wet. It’s made of 5cr15MoV, an easy to sharpen, corrosion resistant steel found in kitchen knives and scissors. A small hole near the tip of the blade harkens back to old kitchen cleavers that were hung on hooks by chefs. Finger grooves on the handle and jimping on the spine improve control during use, and the attached lanyard further helps with grip and retrieval. The whole knife weighs just 1.7 ounces (48 grams), and included with the package is an adjustable carry cord and a glass reinforced nylon sheath.

If you’re looking to carry a stylish and utilitarian cleaver-style blade while keeping things simple, compact and light, the CRKT Minimalist Cleaver neck knife should be at the top of your list. Get yours now through the link below.
