When you start to dig deeper into knives, you learn very quickly that premium materials and exclusive collaborations often come with a hefty price tag. But every once in a while, a partnership happens that gives EDCers something attainable rather than aspirational. For years, the WE Knife Co. Practic exemplified the quality and performance that put the brand on the map: precise machining, premium blade steel choices, snappy deployment, and distinct aesthetics set their value-packed knives apart. This year, in collaboration with Blade HQ, they release three new colorways to update their bestseller, better aligning it with the brand’s new aesthetic direction, and breathing new—and exotic--life to this classic design.

For the new exclusive models, gone are the all blue anodized hardware, giving the Practic a neutral overall palette that’s easier to integrate into your EDC setup. The pivot has been replaced with a subtle design featuring the updated WE logo on the show side. And instead of a blue-hued liner, pocket clip, and hardware, they have been more appropriately matched to the new handle scales in these most recent releases: bead blasted liners, pocket clip and screws adorn the model with lightweight marble carbon fiber scales, while black stonewashed versions go with the models sporting black stonewashed brass and copper scales.

The latter two give you the advantage of antimicrobial properties due to the copper-infused nature of the material, which could be an extra level of safety and sanitation in the current pandemic crisis. The difference in scales do lead to a difference in weight: the model with marble carbon fiber scales, comes in at a svelte 2.95 ounces, while the tougher metallic scales come in at 5.28 ounces, which fits well with the use profile and durable materials of the knife’s construction.

All the new models still utilize premium Bohler M390 stainless steel for their blades, a high hardness steel with a 59-61 RC rating and excellent resistance to both wear and corrosion. At 3.3" long with a hollow grind and a no-nonsense drop-point profile, it sports enough cutting edge and belly to provide good slicing and cutting performance. Three linear cutouts extending from the jimping on the spine are another allusion to the current WE Knife logo. The blade is gray stonewashed on the carbon fiber-scaled model, and black stonewashed to match with the treated copper and brass scales. Smooth ceramic ball bearing pivots and a tuned detent ensure they snap out when you need them.

When you’re done using the Practic, disengaging the locking liners lets you tuck in the blade into the 4.2" long handles. All three models use a machined titanium pocket clip, providing a lightweight, tough, and corrosion-resistant material for the most exposed part of your pocket knife as it hangs off your pocket or pack. The clip color-matched similar to the blade, with a bead blasted version to contrast against carbon fiber scales, and black stonewashed to match the brass- and copper- scaled models.
