SOG Aegis AT

SOG has made a splash this year with a refresh and restyle of the bulk of their everyday carry folding knife line. Along the way they’ve taken some old community favorite EDC options like the Aegis and given it new life with a more ergonomic design, a fresh aesthetic look, quality blade steel upgrades, and a new AT-XR lock technology that offers far more strength than the original models could offer.

Unlike the original SOG Aegis knife, this new AT model ditches the tactical all-black and digital camo look in favor of more EDC-friendly indigo and acid colors. These offer a touch of flair to the overall design while providing high visibility to the thumbstuds and the lock of the blade itself. That lets you easily identify them when you’re in a hurry, and opening the knife is made even easier with the rapid spring assisted opening mechanism built into the handle. Unlike most assisted-opening knives that feature an index flipper, the more traditional use of thumbstuds here helps prevent against accidental firing of the knife while it’s in your pocket. For even more safety, SOG includes an ambidextrous safety in the spine of the handle that absolutely prevents the knife from opening until you need it.

This new incarnation of the Aegis AT is built tough for outdoors use, and the biggest upgrade is the new AT-XR lock that allows for ambidextrous operation and eliminates blade play even during the roughest use. Another big upgrade for this new version of the knife is the level up in blade steel: going from soft AUS-8 to harder and more durable cryo heat-treated D2 tool steel. With D2, the new Aegis AT is able to get a finer edge compared to the original model, and it will keep that edge for longer too. The only downside is that it’ll be more susceptible to wear from corrosion, but SOG deals with that by coating the blade black for durability and scratch resistance. With a deep belly and a strong pointed tip, the Aegis AT will make short work of any cutting, slicing, and piercing task you have on hand.

SOG breathed new life into an old community favorite with the new SOG Aegis AT, and if you’re looking to do the same with your own everyday carry ensemble you should consider picking one up. The fresh new design, improved ergonomics, and sturdier composition and lock make it a compelling choice for your next EDC folding knife purchase. Check it out at the link below.
