Luminox Pacific Diver Series

You might be familiar with Luminox and their handsome precision Swiss-made timepieces, but you might be surprised to find out that the brand and original design of the Luminox watch actually hails from Southern California and the Pacific Coast. In 1989, the US Navy SEALs asked the company to develop a watch for diving and low-light applications. Years later, Luminox is still making dive watches built a cut above what you might find from lesser manufacturers, but in 2020 they’ve decided to introduce a new series of watches that builds upon their first models. There are four different colorways available in the Pacific Diver series, but they all share a precision Ronda 515 quartz movement with a date complication that will keep time more accurately than a mechanical watch, and stand up to more shock and pressure than one, too. The Pacific Diver series features a stainless steel case with a CARBONOX rotating bezel fit for dive calculations, and the case and movement are water resistant down to 200 meters (20 ATM). The 44mm case diameter is built large for better legibility, and the sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating will stand up to life’s bumps and scrapes even if you never take this watch down to more than a swimming pool’s depth.

Of course, the hallmark Luminox design 24/7 luminescence of the hands and hour markers thanks to gas light tubes is present on this watch. The bright luminescence is superior to painted-on material, and it’s especially striking in the dark on the blacked-out 3121.BO version of the watch. The low-profile watch has a tactical bent with a comfortable rubber wristband. The standard 3121 version of the watch keeps that black rubber wristband but has a more standard black and stainless steel look that accentuates the bezel and the hour markers of the design. For those who prefer the traditional metal bracelet found on a diver watch, the 3122 and 3123 offer that experience, with the 3122 keeping the black dial of the other two models and the 3123 providing a handsome blue dial that contrasts nicely with the rest of the design.
