There's a nice backwoods trail system relatively close to my home...only about 3.5 miles total. About a third of the trail runs alongside a river. It's absolutely gorgeous, especially right now when there aren't any leaves on the trees.

These are the basic items I carry with me on a day hike into the woods, mostly for emergency purposes. Preparedness is usually crucial for us EDC'ers...for me, more so than ever when I'm alone in the woods for a couple hours.

I've got the same Mora knife, they are excellent for the price tag, actually excellent full stop.

Very nice

That looks like a good lightweight pack. I'll need to look at it in the store next time.
Chris Szaroleta ·
According to REI's site, it's a mere 1lb. 1oz.

This is a great list. I need to look into getting some of the Mora stuff. The Soto lighter is a good little find as well.
Chris Szaroleta ·
Yeah, I love the little Soto. I especially love to use it with Paracord. If I cut a piece and then need to singe the ends, it makes the perfect tiny torch!

Mora stuff is beyond great. You can easily spend a few hundred bucks on a full tang outdoor/survival/bushcraft knife, or you can spend around $50 (OR LESS) on a Mora and get almost the same use out of it. Don't get me wrong, I do love some of my quality high-end knives, but the Mora is more than enough for a day hike.

I've never seen a ParaCord Spool like that. I should look into it!
That axe looks sweet...and light.
Chris Szaroleta ·
For an axe (really, more of a hatchet) it is fairly light! It also performs considerably well for its size and weight. Mora almost never produces a product anything less than exemplary.

I've actually reached out to them about this axe and we've started discussions about potentiality changing the design concept a bit to be slightly more functional. We'll see how that goes!
