When you need an EDC bag for hauling gear around the city and outdoors alike, chances are you can look no further than a pack from Mystery Ranch. For many in the EDC community they’ve become the bag brand of choice, thanks to their clever yet no-frills designs that are built to last. The Urban Assault is one of their most iconic offerings, with an outdoors-inspired silhouette made up in tough materials you’d expect to find on a tactical pack. This crowd favorite gets a special “Wildfire Black” colorway to support a good cause: the Backbone Scholarship. It’s Mystery Ranch’s way of supporting the heroes who work in wildfire management to train and better themselves in the off-season.

The Urban Assault 21L cleverly combines the design, features, and materials you’d want in an EDC pack to result in one unique bag. The killer app is its Y-shaped, triple zipper system that grants quick, “rip-away” access to the main compartment of the bag with one swift pull. The Y-shape design of the zipper system also lets you easily reach any part of the main interior compartment. Flanking on each of the “wings” are mesh zippered compartments for smaller items, conveniently seated towards the top of the pack to make room for heavier, bulkier gear to sit at the bottom of the main central cavity. You can also carry up to a 15“ laptop in its dedicated, strap-secured pocket, as well as some documents or a tablet in its own sleeve. The ”brain“ of the bag offers storage up top as well a key leash, accessible via its own top-entry, water-resistant zipper. The construction of the ”brain“ at the top of the bag and the use of laminated zippers for the rip-away system all come together to provide some weather resistance.

When this 21L bag’s loaded up with a day’s worth of essentials, it carries securely, comfortably, and confidently thanks to its 500D CORDURA nylon construction, fixed harness frame, and myriad of strap adjustments. You can really dial in the fit of the pack with its adjustable shoulder straps, adjustable/removable sternum strap, and load bearer adjustment straps at the top of the bag. A few more thoughtful touches round out the bag: this special edition features a a commemorative custom patch at the Velcro loop field on the top of the pack, a high-vis orange interior, contrasting orange pull points and strap webbing, and a  matching orange Mystery Ranch label.

Last but not least, 10% of the proceeds from sales of the Wildfire Black Urban Assault 21L will fund the Backbone Scholarship to help advance people who work for Federal Land Management Agencies with their fire management and life goals.
