6 Common Types of Locking Knives Explained
Despite its smaller size, the Lil' Native represents a complete package for EDC, mixing gent's knife styling and practical upgrades to boot. In the case of the Lil' Native, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree: its overall silhouette and ergonomic shape that made the Native great haven't drastically changed. Its thick, leaf-shaped S30V steel blade still features a large thumbhole for deployment and finger choil for added control. This time around the blade measures 2.5” long overall, with about a 2” usable cutting edge. The slight curve on the blade makes that 2” feel longer in practice, which also ends in a defined tip for precise piercing. The blade's full flat grind makes it excellent for slicing and general EDC tasks, too.
Unlike its bigger brothers, the Lil' Native foregoes the lockback mechanism for Spyderco's high-strength Compression Lock on the back of the handle. The G10 scales keep the knife lightweight at just 2.5 oz and complement the handle's 4-finger grip ergonomics with added texture. Lastly, the Lil' Native opts for a sleeker, ambidextrous wire pocket clip for easy carry. For a more modern and EDC-friendly version of a classic knife, pick up the Lil' Native at the link below.
