When you factor in just how powerful the latest and greatest phones are these days, combined with how much screentime we’re getting during a pandemic, it’s not uncommon to find our phones running out of juice sooner than we’d expect. With the new iPhone 12, and especially the iPhone 12 Mini, you might be tempted to add a portable power bank to your EDC just to keep things topped up. But traditional forms of charging on the go generally mean a bulky brick in your pocket and another charging cable to tangle and fray. Anker’s PowerCore Magnetic 5K leverages the iPhone 12’s magnetic back to provide a convenient and minimal charging solution on the go.

The PowerCore Magnetic 5K is a 5,000 mAh portable charger designed to work with the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. All you have to do is grab your charged PowerCore Magnetic 5K and stick it to the back of your phone. It even works through various cases, provided it has a non-magnetic, flat rear surface that’s not thicker than 5mm. The PowerCore Magnetic 5K will keep itself attached through its magnetic design and provide your phone with a 5 watt wireless charge. With a 5,000mAh capacity, it can just about top up an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro, fully charge an iPhone 12 mini’s smaller battery, or charge 75% of an iPhone 12 Pro Max’s larger battery.

The PowerCore Magnetic 5K features a multi-directional USB-C port. This means that, while it can charge your iPhone wirelessly, you can also use its included cable to charge other devices. You can also charge an iPhone while charging the Magnetic 5K itself at the same time. It will charge the phone first, then recharge itself, topping both devices in about 4.5 hours. And if you’re worried about your device’s safety, thinking you might be putting it through a little too much, Anker has you covered in that department as well. It comes with temperature control, short-circuit protection, foreign object detection and an 18 month warranty.

If you want a tangle-free way to keep your phone topped up with just one click, check out the Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K for iPhone 12 at the link below.

So, Anker decided to slip back two generations- no MagSafe charging, not even Qi? Sorry, but no. There are easily available options, often with double the capacity, that will take advantage of full MagSafe charging in the same small compact form, and for the same price. I love Anker products, but they came late to the party on this one.
