If you have to carry a backpack, it’s important to keep in mind the weight of the bag itself. You don’t have to go to the gram-counting extremes that some ultralight backpackers and onebag travelers do to reap the benefits of a lightweight bag, either. A lighter bag means a more comfortable carry and more of your load can be dedicated to your actual gear. Shaving weight is no easy feat, but DSPTCH accomplished it on their newest bag silhouette, the Ridgepack. Thanks to its use of Dyneema composite fabric, renowned for its technical ability and ultra efficient strength to weight ratio, the Ridgepack offers 18L of storage capacity while weighing in at just 21 ounces. That’s 32% lighter than its traditional ballistic nylon counterpart, making it a compelling shell-style backpack for a fast and light urban EDC.

The Ridgepack silhouette keeps things lean at 18L, sized just right for about a day’s worth of essentials and general EDC. The shell style layout trades more complex internal organization for ease of access, light weight, and freedom to pack or accessorize only what’s necessary. Its U-shape, dual-pull zipper fully opens to reveal the main cavity, which is spacious enough for packing cubes and pouch organizers. Finally, a dedicated laptop compartment keeps your computer separated and protected. On the exterior, you’ll find low-profile webbing on either side to attach many of DPSTCH’s modular add-on cases, including magnetic Fidlock pouches, a water bottle case, a camera case, and more.

The 5.0 oz Dyneema composite fabric is the ultra lightweight material doing the heavy lifting here. Despite its barely-there weight, it boasts incredible tear and tensile strength, making it a durable material for EDC, travel, and outdoors use. The fabric is water resistant and reinforced with Dyneema fibers, which are 15 times stronger than steel by weight. It takes a high end, high tech material like Dyneema composite fabric to bring a backpack to this level of weight efficiency without completely sacrificing functionality, comfort, and storage capacity.

DSPTCH does it again with the Ridgepack in Dyneema, made entirely in the USA and backed by their lifetime guarantee. You can learn more about DSPTCH’s latest bags and all their features from their website at the link below.
