A large rubberized tail switch lets you switch between its two modes: a 5-lumen Low for sweeping scans and when you don’t want to blind yourself or your companions, and the aforementioned 180-lumen High for when you need a burst of illumination. The forward-clicky switch also allows for momentary engagement of either mode, which easy for your thumb to do while holding the light in an overhand grip. Magpul designed the DAKA Essential polymer wallet to stand up to both hard use and the elements like they did with their popular phone cases and EDC pouches in the DAKA line. The technical fabric itself has water-resistant properties, keeping your essentials dry from most everything short of immersing it in water. And if it does get wet, the polymer also boasts an anti-slip texture to keep it in place. It has room for up to six cards and some emergency cash in its slim and lightweight polymer fabric frame. At just 3mm thin when empty, it's a wallet that stays discreet and low profile in your pocket. With its rounded corners and smooth edges, slipping it in and out of your pocket is a breeze as well.

The Leatherman Signal is a full-sized multi-tool that features both the brand’s traditional complement of tools and functions plus some hardy survival options. These include a ferrocerium rod firestarter, a safety whistle, and even a detachable diamond-coated sharpener to help maintain its 2.73" 420HC sheepsfoot combo-edge blade. We find familiar functions packed into its 4.5" long, 7.5 ounce chassis: a variety of pliers, wire stripper, saw, awl, hammer, bottle and can openers, plus extra Phillips and flathead screwdriver bits that you can use with the retractable bit driver. And because all the locking functions face outward, you can access them without having to unfold the tool or access the pliers. As the smaller sibling to the massively popular Bugout, the Mini Bugout is one of the most sought-after and talked about everyday carry knives released in the past few years, now available in arguably its most desirable colorway: a full blackout treatment. And with its mix of great ergonomics, solid performance, and ultra light weight, it’s likely to see a place in even more pockets in the year ahead. Its standout feature is the premium 2.75" CPM-S30V stainless steel blade, held in place with Benchmade’s signature AXIS lock and deployed via the traditional thumbstud mechanism. The CF-Elite handles offer the user plenty of grip during even hard use, but it also complements the barely-there weight quality of the knife itself, which weighs in at a meager 1.5 ounces in total. And with its reversible tip-up deep carry pocket clip, it’s not just small and lightweight: it disappears into your pockets when you’re through

With the Everyman Grafton Pen, the designers combined all the features they liked in their favorite pens to create a tough, versatile, and refined writing instrument for your EDC. This buy-for-life pen features a lightweight yet sturdy aluminum body that keeps the weight down to 1 ounce. This makes it good for long writing sessions, thanks to a well-balanced chassis and a grooved grip section. It also makes it easy and convenient to carry in your pocket all day, aided by a heavy duty bolt-on metal clip. In terms of writing performance, it comes with a smooth-writing 0.7mm black refill, but you can customize it to your preferences. You can run the write-anywhere Fisher Space Pen refill, Monteverde Ballpoint, and Parker Gel and Ballpoint cartridges in the Grafton. It can also take Bic Gel, Uniball Jetstream, and Pilot G-2 cartridges, using the included refill sizing kit. At 5.7" long and 0.4" in diameter, the Everyman Grafton Pen sports a familiar form factor that belies the durability and adaptability built into its design.

BigIDesign's Ti Pocket Pro seamlessly transforms to fit over 80 different ballpoint, gel, and rollerball refills, all while maintaining a pocket-friendly design. It's their most compact pen yet, measuring in at just over 4” with a Parker-style refill and a little over a half inch longer with a standard rollerball. The Ti Pocket Pro stands out from the pack thanks to its small size and ability to accept over 80 of the most popular pen refills out there. The key is in its tip mechanism: it's almost like the adjustable clutch on the end of a drill. As you tighten the grip, the clutch clamps down onto your refill of choice. The best part? It gets a just-right fit for a secure, wiggle-free writing experience. On the pen there’s also a beefy, ridged grip section, a sturdy pocket clip, and of course, solid grade 5 titanium construction.

Amidst a sea of innovative and aggressive designs, the simple and unassuming CRKT Pilar continues to trend on our charts as a small, yet functional EDC knife. The distinct, minimalist design comes from knife designer Jesper Voxnaes, and it bears some of the features and qualities of his more expensive work. The thumbhole cutout deploys the 2.4" sheepsfoot satin-finished blade. The 8Cr13MoV blade steel is a common choice at this price point, but its ability to hold a decent edge and sharpen easily can be appreciated in a daily beater knife. The tough framelock design helps the Pilar fit in that role. It offers good ergonomics thanks to the blade’s integrated forward finger choil and the aggressive cutout on the handle, providing comfort and confidence during use. Finally, a robust stainless steel pocket clip mounts on the framelock side of the handles, offering tip-up or tip-down carry.

*LOVE* my CRKT Pilar. Added the brass scale from Flytanium and it makes a great knife even better.
