G-SHOCK Dial Camo Utility Collection

G-SHOCK watches are popular in the EDC community for being some of the toughest timepieces out there, specifically designed for people who spend most of their time in rugged terrain or brutal environments. Aside from their time-telling functionality, watches are still an important part of many people’s EDC as a way to express personal style.

Their new Dial Camo Utility Collection bridges the gap between G-SHOCK performance and the military-tough aesthetic, with original patterns matching the watches’ one-of-a-kind resilience. Priced at $99 each, the three watches featured in the collection are some of the most legendary models the brand has to offer, and the unique new motifs allow them to blend seamlessly with many EDCer’s kits, no matter the mission.

G-SHOCK DW5600CA-2

The shock-resistant structure that was designed all the way in 1983 found its footing with G-SHOCK’s first flagship model, the DW5600, launched 4 years later in 1987 and keeps its signature square case and resilient features to this day. Though technology has since progressed over the past three decades, the DW5600’s core features of 200 meters of water resistance, shock resistant design, electro-luminescent backlight, and versatile timekeeping functions still find their way to modern releases.

It’s a prime example of a product getting it right the first time, and one that remains a great canvas for contemporary designs, including the cool blue colorway and camouflage motif on the dial of this DW5600CA-2 model. It’s simple and efficient, while offering a standout option of a cobalt pop of color for your carry.

G-SHOCK GA700CA-5A

The GA700CA-5A matches its performance with a powerful wrist presence of a 53.4mm case size in a subtle Desert Tan colorway. This model strikes a nice balance of essential information with legibility, featuring three digital displays—surrounded by a unique camo pattern on the dial—for its multiple timekeeping functions, including world time at a glance, a timer, stopwatch, day/date, and alarm, just to name a few.

Analog hands give you the best of both worlds of at-a-glance time identification, while letting the digital displays handle the watch’s other complications. Surrounding the significant bezel are large push buttons, including one front and center that activates its Super Illuminator LED for low-light visibility. Last but not least, 5 years of battery life ensures long-term reliability from this solid model.

G-SHOCK GA2100CA-8A

Since its release a few years ago, the GA2100 has become one of the most desirable and sought-after G-SHOCK models, with its octagonal shape giving it a more distinguished look (a “royal” inspiration, if you will), though it was derived from the original DW5000C and AW500. Like the original stealth black release, the GA2100CA-8A features large indices and contrasting hands, with its mode complication represented with a subdial at the 9 o'clock position and date the lower half of its digital display. Said display is in a sleeker angled window at the 4 o'clock position.

The GA2100 also comes with a dual LED system, one that lights up the Neo-brite lumed hands (and indices on the other colors), and a backlight for the digital display window. But like the rest of the collection, the key feature on the GA2100CA-8A is a generous helping of camouflage motif on its dial. The carbon fiber-reinforced resin case also allows some of the best resilience you can get from a watch, reflected in the GA2100’s 200-meter water resistance. It’s manageable at 45.4mm, but the 11.8mm thickness and light 1.8-ounce weight lets the timepiece wear with ease.
