Every quarter, our friends at Tactile Turn put together a special pen with a unique design and an added flair to spice up your everyday carry stationery collection. If you aren’t familiar with Tactile Turn, they precision-craft quality writing implements out of their US machine shop in Texas. This quarter’s Summer Seasonal Release is called the Trailhead, an outdoors-inspired special edition of their brand new mainline Slim Side Click pen.
The Tactile Turn Slim Side Click features a slimmer body compared to its original design, at 0.37” diameter compared to the original 0.43” dimension. It also has a redesigned pocket clip that lets the pen sit deeper in the pocket, similar to how deep-carry pocket clips work with EDC folding knives.
It’s also available in three different sizes: a Standard 5.8” length that takes Pilot G2 refills, a Short 5.3” length that takes venerable Parker-style refills, and a Mini 4.6” edition that takes Pilot G2 mini refills. And you can pick between four core metal bodies for the pen, including titanium, bronze, copper, and zirconium. That latter option gets a fabulous heat treatment that forms a durable, dark-gray black oxide coating.
The special edition Tactile Turn Trailhead takes the winning formula of the new Slim Side Click, featuring a body with Cerakote treatment for intense resistance against everyday bumps and scrapes, as well as the rigors of dealing with a wet outdoor environment.
The speckled light tan and brown body, mixed with the playful blue finial, red side click mechanism, and green pocket clip pull design elements from the Tactile Turn team’s favorite hiking shoes, outdoor packs, and gear. If you look closely at the clip, you’ll notice trees laser engraved onto it and a familiar outline of an animal that may or not exist in the woods, depending on who you ask.
But if you ask us, one of the best things about this quarter’s special release from Tactile Turn is that they’re not making a limited number of pens this time.
