Much like the smooth, heavy knobs of quality, vintage audio gear, the HDS Rotary’s selector ring provides a classy, silken feel and very intuitive user interface. Using the ring, you can seamlessly dial into one of 17 separate outputs, as the jump from one brightness level to another is so subtle, it’s virtually unnoticeable. Additionally, you can select brightness and then turn on the light – allowing for convenient, direct access to your desired output without the hassle of cycling through modes and ruining your night vision. The Rotary’s stroke of genius that sets it apart from the many selector ring click lights on the market is its design. Putting the click button and selector ring in such close proximity allows for one-hand operation. Add to this a 200 lumen output, immaculate fit and finish, and a build quality so robust it turns tanks green with envy, and you have one of the most praised lights ever made. As such, they aren’t easy to come by.

There’s a reason why a grail knife like the Chris Reeve Sebenza 31 has stayed on top over the years. A combination of great design, impeccable manufacturing, and wide array of exotic materials and construction make the Sebenza 31 worth the price for many EDCers. The Sebenza comes in Small or Large variants, with the large installed with a 3.625" blade made out of premium CPM-S45VN steel. The blade features a drop point shape for versatility in cutting, slicing, and piercing tasks along with a stonewashed finish that gives it a sleek, timeless look. The base Sebenza comes with a thumb stud on the show side for deployment, which comes in metallic blue to add a pop of color to the overall look. Once deployed, the blade is held in place by the Reeve Integral Lock mechanism, which is similar to a framelock with a ceramic ball detent. The integral (single piece construction) handle comes in bead blasted titanium for top of the line strength and weight savings and is a big part of its iconic look. Last but not least, its titanium pocket clip keeps the Sebenza 31 ready for EDC.

While there are many solutions out there for carrying a screwdriver as a part of your EDC, most of them still take up a lot of space, and if they don’t, they tend to be on the leaner side of functionality. That’s why the Stanley 4-in-1 Pocket Screwdriver sits at a solid middle ground. It sports a design that’s reminiscent of a pen (pocket clip included); this way you’ll have way more versatility and space available when carrying it. In it, you’ll find the convenience of four precision screwdrivers packed into two magnetic bits. You have access to a 5/32", 1/8", 0PT, and a 1PT driver, which are basically two sizes each of a flat and Phillips head. You can store these double-sided bits inside the barrel itself: one at the front, and the other at the back by removing the cap/pocket clip. At 7.25" of length and 0.7 ounces, it’s a compact but functional addition to your EDC until you need it.

Tudor’s Pelagos takes a different turn from the Black Bay, with its modern appearance and materials. Crafted from titanium, the case is lightweight, strong, and water-resistant down to an impressive 500 meters. There’s a helium escape valve integrated into the side of the case, taking a more subtle approach than Omega’s separate crown-like device. The titanium bracelet on the Tudor has a unique spring-loaded extension system that keeps it comfortable on your wrist all day long. You’ll also appreciate the sapphire crystal for durability, the 70-hour power reserve for convenience, and the ceramic bezel insert to avoid scratches.

One look at the Praxis and you can tell that CIVIVI designed it to be a workhorse of a blade, with a stout, 3.75" 9Cr18MoV drop point blade built with corrosion resistance in mind. The larger profile allows for a full-handed grip, bolstered by a cutout in the blade and contoured G-10 handles that guide your fingers into a solid choked up grasp on the knife. Stainless steel ball bearings in the pivot offer a smooth glide on the flipper deployment, and a liner lock keeps the edge in check during use. Last but not least, a reversible stainless steel deep-carry pocket clip gives the Praxis ambidextrous operation, offering everyone an affordable option for a hardworking everyday blade.

Opinel makes some of the most affordable and popular EDC knives on the market and has been for many years, but that doesn’t mean they can’t push the limit on occasion. With only 500 pieces available in the United States, Opinel’s latest offering infuses collectibility and premium materials into one of their most popular knives: the No.08 Serpent Wood Limited Edition. The handle is the most striking feature of Opinel’s exciting take on the No.08. It’s made from Serpent Wood taken from the Marmaroxylon racemosum tree found deep within the French Guiana’s jungle, and each handle features a unique wood grain with light and dark tones reminiscent of snakeskin.

At #4 for August is Benchmade's first take on a classic slip joint folder. It's a non-locking folding knife with a ton of character, crafted by one of the best blade makers in the USA. Instead of the cheap carbon steel you commonly see on slip joints, the Proper uses a corrosion-resistant, American-made CPM-S30V steel on its 2.86” blade. Its sheepsfoot blade shape is ideal for a variety of cutting and slicing tasks, thanks to the large belly and distinct point. In keeping with the traditional slip joint design, the Proper comes with scales made of either red contoured G10 or a dark brown canvas micarta that both give a unique tactile feel and extra grip. It opens and closes with a nail nick and the slip joint mechanism keeps it firmly in place. There’s no pocket clip, but there is a lanyard hole so you can easily grab it from your pocket.
Fox

The Fox Knives Vox Suru stands out as a premium choice for a compact pocket knife, featuring designer Jesper Voxnaes’s distinct aesthetics, a robust build made for actual knife work, and great ergonomics. While the specs seem to be for a small knife with a 2.32" blade tucked into a 3.51" handle, it flips open into a usable form factor thanks to the dual finger choil design. Opened up, the Bohler N690 blade comes in a practical drop point shape that features excellent edge retention and superior corrosion resistance. Flick it out using the flipper tab, or slow roll it using the thumb cutout to be more discreet. Retraction is easy and reliable thanks to a steel lockbar insert reinforcing the framelock mechanism built into the beefy aluminum handles. The pronounced cutout on the handle mirrors the finger choil on the blade to give you a good grip, while milled holes keep the weight down to 3.0 ounces. A simple yet elegant wire clip facilitates pocket carry, and a lanyard hole in the backspacer allows you to add some cordage or your favorite bead. The Fox Knives Vox Suru lets you bring along a useful premium steel blade in a compact carry package that doesn’t sacrifice ergonomics.

If you are looking for a compact EDC flashlight that’s still powerful enough to cover your bases, the Fenix E12 V2.0 has you covered. The Fenix E12 V2.0 is powered by a single AA battery and operated with its anti-slip tail switch, offering two modes and a maximum output of 160 lumens over 75 yards. This not only makes it more than capable as a backup light, but is also plenty of lumens for everyday tasks. AA batteries are also easy to come by, making it an easy task to find extra fuel, especially in an emergency. The light also pushes the limits of portability, measuring only 3“ long and weighing in at 1 ounce. Despite this smaller build, it’s still rated IP68 for water and impact resistance, providing you with security and reliability. The Fenix E12 V2.0 is more than just a backup light.

If you need a way to carry extra gear but don’t want a full-size bag, a sling-sized companion like Mystery Ranch's Hip Monkey is the way to go. It's a surprisingly roomy fanny pack, with a durable construction and thoughtful features. It comes with a full 8L of space across two compartments for carrying all the gear you might need. These straps help you reduce the size of the bag when it’s empty, and let you dial in a snug fit for your gear when full. 500D CORDURA nylon construction and YKK zippers protect its contents even during the harshest of commutes. A shoulder strap also lets the Hip Monkey ride across your chest if fanny pack carry isn't your style.
