The Drop: RZE HexEdge Microblade

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Taking what they’ve learned from their “Resolute” line of titanium watches, RZE takes another step into the domain of functional adventure gear with the HexEdge Microblade: a compact pocket knife that doesn’t compromise on quality. Measuring just 4.1” extended and 2.44” closed, the HexEdge provides the functionality of a full-sized knife while weighing less than 2 ounces. As a point of reference, that makes it about as long as your average key when closed.

It uses a D2 tool-grade steel blade with a titanium nitride coating to minimize corrosion, increase scratch resistance, and reduce light reflections, making it more discrete. The handle features angular, ergonomic design lines and uses textured G-10 that feels great to hold and helps its user maintain a solid grip. Adding to its usability is its lanyard hole, which doubles as a prying tool or chisel. A reversible clip adds even more options for carrying. Deploying the knife is a satisfying experience that’s easily achieved single-handedly, thanks to its butterfly front flip mechanism—perfect for extended fidget sessions.

What we like: Small, tough, lightweight, and cost-effective, the RZE HexEdge Microblade presents excellent value for the functionality it offers.

What to watch out for: Those with larger hands may find using a knife this small a little awkward.

Final verdict: Well-designed small knives that feature build quality this impressive are few and far between, making the HexEdge an easy recommendation. Pledge one for yourself at their fully funded Kickstarter campaign link below.
