Short of releases in more and more exotic materials, new and interesting flashlight form factors are so few and far between that every time one comes along that’s both unique and functional, a big chunk of the flashlight community sits up to take notice. I first caught wind of the Edison Light Stick in one of the flashlight enthusiast Facebook groups, and it really did look the part.
With its name and styling the Edison Light Stick pays homage to the inventor’s wound filament bulbs with the signature internal filaments and very warm temperatures that illuminated the turn of the 20th century. This modern interpretation by Barebones gives you the vintage aesthetic but with all the conveniences of current technology, making it actually usable as an everyday lantern.
The Light Stick is powered by an 18650 cell and comes with onboard USB-C charging (which can double as a direct power source), and gives you the perfect ambient 2000K-2400K light across two modes, with a maximum of 165 lumens for 4.5 hours on High or 12 lumens/45 hours on Low. But that’s not all, as the light hides a secondary flashlight mode with an LED on the top, giving you a more direct beam with up to 145 lumens at a still-pleasant 2800K-3300K temperature.
Completing its retro look is a brass, copper, and leather construction making it an excellent aesthetic addition to any EDC that favors those materials.
What we like: Look at this thing. It’s pure vintage goodness, and looks amazing in photos. The fact that it’s an actual functioning lamp/flashlight with a highly pleasant color temperature is a superb bonus.
What to watch out for: The retro look or the temperature isn’t for everyone. If your needs require a focused and powerful beam with all the lumens, this isn’t the right light for the job.
Final verdict: It’s not cheap, but one heck of an addition to any flashlight collection; it’s simply one of the most unique lights you can pick up today.
