It's Halloween season again, and oddly enough, it's an appropriate time to rethink your EDC. You've got your knives and lighters for making jack-o-lanterns and flashlights to keep little ones safe on their neighborhood routes. Maybe you won't go so far as repurposing your go-bag into trick-or-treating candy storage (though I can't blame you: candy just tastes better when it's free), but there's good reason to get your EDC in the Halloween spirit with some new orange gear.

Now, you don’t have to use Halloween as an excuse to pocket orange gear. Adding that color to your carry has year-round benefits as well. Orange is typically used in the outdoors and zombie apocalypse survival situations for its strikingly high visibility. Compared to the usual black finishes, orange makes your gear easier to find whether you've dropped it in the woods or it's sitting at the darkest bottom corner of a loaded bag. Here are our picks for hi-vis orange gear to carry this autumn:

Spyderco Endura

This hi-vis blade from Spyerco cuts with ease, it’s also much easier to find should you drop it on the ground or behind your car seat. The lockback mechanism is sturdy and strong, and the 4-way clip ensures that you'll find a carry solution to fit your needs.

Rhodia Pocket Notebooks

Rhodia has been offering the highest quality notebooks in their signature black and orange colorway since the 1930s. Rhodia pocket notebooks are durable, bright orange, and packed with premium paper. They're easy to find in a packed briefcase, making it easy to retrieve and write down quick notes.

BUY ($5)

Exotac Fire Starter

Telling scary stories is way more fun around a fire. The compact Exotac fire starter will get the blaze going in no time. A snap-in striking tool ensures that all the pieces stay together.

BUY ($12)

Seiko Orange Monster

With a name like the Orange Monster, how could it not be included? This heavy-duty diver from Seiko is ready for duty year round. A highly visible orange face and super bright, green lume scream Halloween, but it’s just as much at home on a beach in the summer.

BUY ($193)

Uni Jetstream Alpha

Add a pop of color to your EDC with the Uni Jetstream Alpha. This hybrid ink pen is one of the smoothest on the market, laying down a consistent and fast drying line. Since the ink dries so quickly, it makes an ideal option for southpaws who are sick of smudging their writing.

BUY ($5)

Flowfold Wallet

This slim, minimalist front pocket wallet is heavy on design, but light in weight. Constructed from reclaimed carbon fiber sailcloth, it’s lightweight and stronger than steel. Carry up to four cards and a stash of cash.

BUY ($25)

Benchmade Griptilian

The Benchmade Griptilian is one of the best EDC blades you can get. It comes in a wide array of colors and blade configurations, sure to suit everyone’s tastes. Reach for this black and orange color way to get in the Halloween spirit.

Leatherman Juice S2

Make easy work of carving pumpkins with this pocketable tool. A built in knife, scissors, pliers, and more make for a great multitool that’s both small and capable.

BUY ($24)

LaCie RuggedKey

This rugged flash drive is perfect for transporting photos, music and files, thanks to its large capacity and small size. It’s also way easier to find than the standard drab colored drives, and will have no problem standing up to EDC use on a keychain setup.

I'm a Baltimore Orioles fan, so I might add a few of these items to my EDC collection.
Another benefit of orange is it gets rid of the "scary tactical" look.
Andrew Curtis ·
My favourite colour. But my EDC is already a mixture of black and grey and it'll stay that way unless I win the lottery.
NotoriousAPP ·
Love orange. I can never find the black EDC gear in the deep depths of my bags.
Ed Jelley ·
Have you considered a bag with hi-vis interior? I was skeptical about the inside of my bag being yellow, until I realized it makes everything so much easier to find.
Ronald Flores del Rosario ·
Awesome, good for camping and day trips in the forest or snow!
