You only get one set of eardrums in your life, so it’s important to take care of your hearing when you can. To do this, a lot of people in the EDC community regularly carry around hearing protection in the form of earplugs, to reduce loud noises in the environment down to safe levels. They’re also good to have on hand when you leave home to go listen to live music as well. But most earplugs are cheap and disposable in nature, especially earplugs which tend to fall out of pockets leaving you high and dry when you need them most. That’s why carrying a quality set of earplugs like the upcoming Prometheus Psi comes in: they’re built to last, with replaceable foam tips that feel better in your ears than standard earplugs, and have built in magnetic retention to ensure you don’t lose them in the shuffle of everyday life.

Unlike the standard pair of earplugs you might find in the hardware store, which are made out of cheap plastic, Prometheus used lightweight and durable aerospace-grade 6AL4V titanium in the design of the Psi earplugs. And if you want the lightest weight possible, Prometheus also offers the Psi earplugs in Delrin thermoplastic, which is specifically designed for use in colder temperatures as well. Both options feature Comply “P Series” foam ear canal tips that offer an ANSI-certified 29 decibels of noise reduction and 95% sound attenuation. These tips conform to the shape of your ear canal for a proper fit that won’t get irritating even during extended use. Prometheus includes small, medium, and large ear tips for your convenience, and if they ever wear out they are replaceable with more of the same, so you don’t have to go shopping for a new pair of noise protectors to be safe on a regular basis.

And to help make sure you don’t lose the earplugs when you aren’t using them, Prometheus designed the Psi plugs with magnets that hold them together in your pockets. That magnetic retention mechanism, combined with the US-made Atwood Rope neck cord, helps you if you have to pull the plugs out of your ear suddenly to hear a conversation, for example.

The Prometheus Psi earplugs is fully-funded now on Kickstarter, and Prometheus has a long history of delivering quality products for everyday carry both through crowdfunding and their own site. If you’re looking to step up your game and ditch the cheap earplugs you’ve been carrying around so far, or if you’re looking to finally buy some hearing protection for the first time, the Prometheus Psi is a good place to start.
