Handgrey KIN Titanium Key Hook

When it comes to making the most out of your keychain, it's all about the hook. Most keychain hooks, at best, do their job keeping your essentials close at hand. At worst, they're so poorly designed that they can damage your pockets or belt. For us EDCers, that simply won't do. So Handgrey put their years of experience and successful crowdfunded projects behind them to perfect the keychain hook with their latest product, the KIN. With its efficiency in its simplicity and metal that speaks for itself, the KIN doesn't just enhance your keychain's utility, but it elevates its aesthetic as well.

So how do you dress up something as simple as a hook? Titanium would be a good place to start. The EDCer's favorite metal offers unique properties that make it great for gear meant to be used every day, such as its strength in spite of its flexibility and its heavy resistance while remaining lightweight. That flexibility lends itself well to the functionality of KIN's Grade 5 titanium hook, since it's able to engage and disengage without ever losing its grip.

Handgrey also added a couple of thoughtful touches to the hook itself: a no-contact opening and slightly curved tip that ensures it doesn't rip your pockets to shreds over time, and a wide inner clearance for latching onto thicker objects. Since the hook rides deep, there are grooves on either side of the KIN that give proper purchase when pulling it from its attachment point. The keychain slot itself also shows off Handgrey's precision-cut ornamentation, slow-cut using EDM (electrical discharge machining) for precision even in the smallest spaces. While it doesn't add any functionality, it's something that will make onlookers do a double-take to see just how such tiny cuts are possible.

A simple hook with the right design goes a long way. The Handgrey KIN is already funded nearly six times over, with plenty of time for you to pledge for one of two styles and accessories at the link below.

Handgrey H4 Titanium Carabiner

I don’t care how dope your keychain setup is. Sure, you might have your keys in order, and your bases covered with keychain-sized backup tools. But to EDC a truly dialed keychain, you can’t neglect the hardware. Cheap, flimsy carabiners run the risk of losing your keys. They can be unwieldy when you try to actually put your keychain tools to use, too. The Handgrey H4 looks and functions how an EDC carabiner should, with its precise titanium construction and quick-release design.

Writing off the H4 as simply a carabiner that happens to be titanium wouldn’t do it justice—its original design is as functional as it is aesthetically appealing. The bottom section of the H4 leaves room for a modular system, meaning you can slip on separate split rings with keys or gear as needed. When closed, the carabiner gate securely blocks your gear from detaching. Compared to a traditional design, the gate pivot on the H4 sits further into the frame. This gives you enough clearance when you open it to conveniently remove your gear individually, letting you use them freely without needing extra quick release clips and hardware.

Both the gate and carabiner frame are EDM wire cut with impeccable precision from grade 5 titanium, resulting in an elegantly rugged interpretation of an everyday staple. If you’re looking for a solid, minimal way to take your keychain game to the next level, check out the Handgrey H4 at the link below.

Handgrey KNOX

In pursuit of the perfect keychain, you might obsess over all the right tools to add to it. But chances are, not much thought goes into one central component—the split ring itself. After making fine titanium carabiners, Handgrey returns to Kickstarter to introduce the KNOX. It’s their ambitious innovation on a tried-and-true piece of hardware as the next step towards a beautiful keychain. Well, the real beauty of it is that its 10-sided design opens laterally, taking the frustration out of slipping gear on and off. Next, it’s made from grade 5 titanium using precision EDM wire cutting and stone tumbled to a satin finish. Titanium makes this an admittedly pricey way to spare your fingernails the torture of cheap, stubborn split rings, but its durability and springiness ensure the ring will keep its shape even after repeated opening. Step your keychain game up a notch and check out the KNOX on Kickstarter.
