The Drop: Pelican 9000 Light Case

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Pelican’s extensive hard-sided case line fits the bill quite nicely when protecting sensitive electronics and other fragile valuables. But obviously, I can’t fit one of their carry-on cases in my pockets or go bag. That’s where their compact and pocketable small electronics cases come in. Take the Pelican 9000 Light Case, for example, which further improves upon the formula by introducing a unique internal LED light to the lid.

The Pelican 9000 was designed with adventures, both large and small, in mind. It has a small storage space rated for IP67 waterproofing that can fit a cell phone, compact camera, or other small EDC essentials. And built into the case itself is a 300-lumen LED light. This is an excellent backup if you, like me, tend to forget your EDC flashlight at home, but hate being caught out in the dark without one. It’s also a quick way to identify critical gear in an emergency. And when help is needed in the great outdoors, it can act as a flashing safety beacon that can be seen from afar.

What I like: This unique two-in-one design combines two everyday carry functions: a protective hard case and an LED flashlight. And because it takes AA batteries, it’s easy to find replacements. It also comes with a carabiner for carry options and convenience.

What to watch out for: Unlike many everyday carry flashlights made today, the Pelican 9000 Light Case is not USB rechargeable. And if you rely on it as your primary flashlight, remember that it comes attached to a compact, rugged case, making it more unwieldy than a dedicated light.

Final verdict: Whether you’re picking up a way to carry tech essentials safely, making an emergency first-aid kit, or preparing for a trip to the great outdoors, the practical and unique dual-nature LED flashlight and hard case solution brought by the Pelican 9000 Light Case is hard to beat.
