If you like spending a lot of time outdoors or work in a demanding environment, such as construction or manufacturing, then EDC gear that features micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coating is something you’d want to look into. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) is an electrochemical process that creates a hard, scratch and corrosion-resistant oxide coating on a metal surface, adding another layer of protection against everyday wear and tear.
Flashlights, in particular, benefit a lot from MAO coating, so we’re taking a look at the RovyVon Micro-arc Oxidation Flashlights and the two models from this series: the RovyVon Angel Eyes E3 Plus and the Aurora A3 Pro G4.
The RovyVon Angel Eyes E3 Plus is the second generation of the popular Angel Eyes E3 flashlight. It’s been upgraded with improvements based on customer feedback, such as a new user interface, a larger capacity battery, an optimized light head latch, and a redesigned pocket clip. The MAO marble gray color also gives the flashlight a sleek and elegant look.
The E3 Plus has a dual-button design that allows for more dedicated operation. The upper button controls the daily modes and lock/unlock function, while the lower button provides quick access to momentary on and strobe modes. It has a built-in 330mAh rechargeable battery that can be charged via USB-C, and it can also use a standard AAA battery as a backup. The flashlight has a maximum output of 650 lumens and a maximum runtime of 62 hours on Moonlight mode.
The RovyVon Aurora A3 Pro G4 is another MAO marble gray flashlight designed for a more compact or keychain EDC. It’s a rechargeable light that can deliver up to 650 lumens of bright light with an optic reflector. Its one-button interface allows easy access to four brightness levels and two special modes: Strobe and Beacon. It features a built-in 260mAh rechargeable battery that can be charged via USB-C in about 70 minutes, an IPX6 water resistance rating, and a drop resistance of up to 1.5 meters.
Both flashlights come in high CRI versions via the popular Nichia 219C emitter, which means they have a high color rendering index that can reveal the true colors of objects. This is highly desirable for EDC use, as it can help you identify colors more accurately in different situations. However, you have the option for higher output by choosing the versions with a 6500K cool white tint LED.
What we like: Compared to Type III HA coatings, MAO has better performance in corrosion resistance, durability, and wear resistance. It also looks fantastic, making the lights look like they’re made of marble.
What to watch out for: Both flashlights have a USB-C port for charging, but they don’t support fast charging or power delivery.
Final verdict: The RovyVon Micro-arc Oxidation Series flashlights combine durability, performance, and aesthetics in a small package you can easily carry anywhere.
