Father’s Day is only a few weeks away, and if you’re looking for good gift for your dad this season, a quality everyday carry knife like the GiantMouse ACE Sonoma is worth the consideration. Recently refreshed in a V2 outdoors variant, the Sonoma features a slim, minimal, yet highly functional design with a smooth flipper action and premium materials that make it one of the best knives that Dad can EDC today. All four versions of the knife are available today directly from GiantMouse, ready to ship out in time for your dad’s big day.
Sonoma Titanium and PVD
The Sonoma takes its name from a scenic part of the California wilderness just north of the Bay Area, with rolling hills and valleys. And with its elegant looks and premium materials as well as construction it’s a beautiful knife that’s well suited to the name. It starts with the Bohler M390 MICROCLEAN stainless steel blade on the business end of the knife, which features a flat ground drop point shape with a slender 3.4″ length with a well-defined tip and belly that make the knife a great piercer and slicer. The premium M390 steel construction holds an excellent edge even during rough use and its satin treatment complements the looks of the stonewashed titanium handle well.
But looks aren’t all that the titanium handle adds to the mix as it comes with a frame lock that ensures the blade stays in shape during the cut, ball bearings in the pivot that make the flipper opening an easy one-handed affair, and a deep carry pocket clip that lets the knife slip out of sight when it’s not in use. And if you’re looking for a more discreet version of the Sonoma knife to gift, the PVD colorway features a darker look with a PVD stonewashed handle and a stonewash finish on the M390 blade.
Sonoma V2 Green and Natural Canvas Micarta
The second and latest iteration of the Sonoma knife features a more rugged design that’s well-suited for outdoor EDC use. The Sonoma V2 adds a sturdy canvas Micarta handle scale into the mix while still providing a solid lock-up with the built-in titanium liner lock mechanism. Another thing that’s changed up from the original knife is the substitution of super-premium Elmax steel for the blade itself, which offers an increased amount of chromium that allows for excellent edge retention as well as corrosion resistance, making it a good choice for extended use. The canvas micarta scales hold up well against water damage while offering excellent grip, even in wet conditions. It also allows for more variety in colors, ranging from a natural brown tan look as well as earthy green.
