RovyVon C20 Commander Tactical Pen

With the growing popularity of EDC, tactical pens are a dime a dozen. However they’re usually all-black and aggressively knurled to get the message across that they’re designed for self defense. But your EDC pen shouldn’t solely be used  for tactical applications—it should still write well, stand up to the rough and tumble of daily carry, and if possible, do more than let you jot things down. As no strangers to quality, multi-functional gear, the brand behind one of the best EDC flashlights available debuts their take on the tactical pen with the RovyVon C20 Commander. Aesthetically it ditches the usual tactical design cues and instead opts for a more discreet, utilitarian form factor and dresses it up in tough yet light titanium. It’s got a few more tactical tricks up its sleeve too, delivering on functionality without compromising its sleek style.

RovyVon didn’t skimp on materials for the C20 Commander, leveraging titanium’s excellent strength to weight ratio and material properties throughout the pen. The body is CNC machined out of pure titanium with a generous, rib-textured grip section for comfort and control in hand. The pen comes with a Schmidt P900 refill and accommodates similarly compatible Parker-style refills. The C20 Commander uses an interesting hybrid deployment mechanism that’s similar to both a clicky top and a twist pen. Pushing down on the tail cap advances the ink refill, while twisting the cap locks it in place. The benefit to this mechanism comes into play when you’re not using the pen — pulling up on the tailcap and twisting it acts as a lockout function, ensuring you won’t have unwanted leaks in your pocket or bag.

No tactical pen would be complete without additional emergency functions, and the RovyVon C20 packs a few. For starters, its tailcap houses a ceramic ball that can break glass in an emergency. Next, the tailcap features three slots for tritium vials, letting you customize the pen with your own glow bars for low-light visibility. Rounding out its additional features is its included pocket clip, made from a TC4 titanium alloy.
