It's a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
As much as we love maintaining our tools, we shouldn’t forget about maintaining the most important working machine we own: our hearts. Arrhythmias or irregular heartbeats that go unchecked can damage our heart, brain, or other organs, leading to a life-threatening stroke, heart failure, or cardiac arrest.
Modern medical technology like the KardiaMobile Card means we don’t have to schedule a doctor’s appointment for an electrocardiogram or EKG when we feel something might be wrong. The KardiaMoile Card is a portable credit card-sized personal EKG that you can easily slip in your wallet or bag so you can record accurate, medical-grade EKG readings in seconds, no matter where you are. You don’t even need a WiFi connection to do it. The card connects to your mobile phone wirelessly through Bluetooth, where you get clear readings on your phone’s screen.
What we like: What’s not to like about a portable medical-grade EKG that detects up to six of the most common arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation? And it’s perfectly EDC-sized, something everyone can keep on their person at all times.
What to watch out for: The KardiaMobile Card is not tested or recommended for use with pacemakers and ICDs, nor does it check for signs of a heart attack.
Final verdict: While we’re always hoping we’ll never need to use it, it’s one of those things that we’ll be glad to have just in case we do. And with a form factor we’re all familiar with, it’s an easy thing to add to your wallet loadout.
