It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
AceBeam and Maratac are longtime heavyweights in the flashlight industry, each with their share of popular, powerful, and pocketable lights that have stood the test of time. And now, with the Tactical Defender P16 LED flashlight, they have finally come together with a limited-run collaboration flashlight that makes for a compelling yet compact EDC torch.
The P16 is a compact, 5.17″ long tactical flashlight with a one-touch strobe and four lighting modes up to 1,800 lumens out the front. It’s also a great throwing flashlight, sporting a single SFT40 LED module and a customized TIR optic lens that sends a powerful beam to 1,600 feet ahead of you. You might have seen the convenient dual rear tail switch design from AceBeam lights in the past, but now they’ve been mated with this EDC-friendly pocketable flashlight from Maratac.
Other fun stuff include a blacked-out strike bezel and two-way clip, a battery indicator in the power switch, and dual compatibility with a single 18650 battery or 2 x CR123As.
What we like: Tactical lights usually trade throw for brightness, but with rock-solid specs the P16 can do both in a durable and waterproof package.
What to watch out for: The P16 is only available in olive drab green, and that might not jive with the color schemes of the rest of your gear. Maratac and AceBeam also only made 300 of these lights, available exclusively from the CountyComm online store, so act fast if it’s a good fit for your EDC.
Final verdict: It’s a pocketable powerhouse in 18650 when most of the industry is moving to larger lights with bigger or built-in batteries, so if this is your color, then it’s worth a look to see if it’s a good fit for your EDC.
