It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
When Joe Caswell first put out his unique Kinematic technology in the original Provoke karambit, there wasn’t anything else on the market like it. Not only was it visually striking to see the system in action, but deploying the knife with a slight push of the thumb and a satisfying snap was always a treat. But while the Provoke and its variations made for excellent tactical and emergency options, the blade shape wasn’t ideal for day-to-day tasks where the angled blade would be a hindrance more than a benefit.
Fast forward to 2023 and CRKT’s new lineup, and the Provoke EDC was the first to catch our eye. It’s everything we loved about the Provoke karambit, but now with a conventional and more versatile drop point blade. The blade comes in D2 at 2.56″, making it an excellent everyday working blade, while its back half is all Kinematic action in striking blue aluminum. And we haven’t forgotten the Provoke’s low-profile, flush-mounted clip that makes it easy to clip into pockets, either.
What we like: It’s the Kinematic action we love using but now with a more usable blade. Really, what’s not to like?
What to watch out for: Like most OG Provokes, still a bit on the pricier side, so we’re hoping for more affordable options in the future.
Final verdict: The sheer satisfaction of popping open a Provoke‘s blade with the push of a thumb never gets old, and we suspect it won’t be for this one, either.
