It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

If you’ve been following us for a while, then you’d know that not all flashlights are created equal. This is especially true for long-throw flashlights, which serve a specific purpose that flood lights or general-use flashlights can’t fulfill. The RovyVon S21 is a high-performance flashlight with a unique design, a super bright LED, and a long throw beam, among other compelling features. But these aren’t the only characteristics that set it apart from other long-throw lights we’ve tested.

The RovyVon S21 is made of high-quality aluminum treated with Micro-Arc Oxidation (MAO),  an electrochemical process that produces oxide protective coatings. This adds a hard, durable coating that prevents overheating, withstands daily wear, and enhances both its modern aesthetic and corrosion resistance. It uses a high-performance Luminus SFT-70 6500K LED, which produces an astounding maximum output of 3000 lumens. This LED features a round light-emitting surface, creating an extremely uniform beam and providing excellent color rendering. While it packs a punch, the flashlight still manages to have a handheld size of 5.6 x 1.1” while weighing a mere 116 grams (without its battery), making it easy to carry and use.

Long-throw lights are helpful for long-distance surveys, scoping out dimly lit roads, or when you need to illuminate a hiking path ahead. The S21’s high-intensity beam can reach up to 400m, which is suitable for most situations. The flashlight’s tight beam angle ensures a focused and concentrated light.

Another feature that sets the RovyVon S21 apart is its intuitive mechanical rotary switch. You can rotate the switch to get the brightness level you need, from Eco (30 lumens) to High (1000 lumens). You can also press and hold the metal switch to activate the Turbo mode (3000 lumens) when needed. A power indicator tells you how much battery is left every time you turn it on and also shows you the charging status when you plug in the USB-C cable to recharge the included 5000mAh battery, which can be fully charged in just 2.5 hours.

It has an IPX8 waterproof rating, which means it can be submerged in water up to 2m for 30 minutes. Like most flashlights in its category, it also has a strong magnet at the tail cap, which allows you to attach it to any metal surface for hands-free use. You can also use the included lanyard or pocket clip for extra carry options.

What we like: We love the look (and feel) of the Micro-Arc Oxidation treatment, and the fact that it adds another level of durability is a great plus.

What to watch out for: It’s not the most compact mini flashlight in its class, and it also carries a higher price than other flashlights with similar features.

Final verdict: Combining durability, performance, and aesthetics in a small package, the RovyVon S21 is packed with features that make it an excellent choice for those looking for a long-throw flashlight.
