The Drop: The WESN Bornas Fixed Blade Knife

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

It’s a huge knife market out there, and sometimes to make the biggest mark, you start with small things. WESN made a name for themselves by perfecting their Microblade, a seriously solid knife built to be a compelling compact EDC. S35VN, titanium, G-10, and a small pile of colorways both neutral and with some pop—the Microblade has a lot to like, and its success has allowed WESN to spin off even more designs like the larger Allman or slipjoint Henry.

And now the brand has taken all they’ve learned and introduced a new member to the family: the Bornas. It’s WESN’s first fixed blade and comes with a history of the Swedish countryside, culminating in a knife they’re sourcing and handmaking in the Nordic country itself. Beyond the fixed blade’s traditions in the outdoors and trade skills, the Bornas is designed to be every bit a modern EDC knife.

It comes with a 2.75″ S35VN blade stock with a super-versatile drop point shape, scaled with either Rosewood or OD green G-10 handles, and comes with a custom leather sheath sourced and made in Sweden as well. The fully-funded campaign has also introduced a Kydex sheath option among its initial stretch goals, and we’ve heard whispers that even more are on the way for the knife itself—maybe options rhyming with burly circh and slack geranium. You didn’t hear it from us.

What we like: Describe the ideal compact EDC fixed blade, and you’ll likely end up with something very much like the Bornas. Solid specs, great everyday size, and a timeless design you can carry for most everyday tasks both indoors and out.

What to watch out for: Standard crowdfunding disclaimer here, so just be aware of how pledging on Kickstarter works. Also, strap in for a bit of a wait, as the target shipping date starts in June next year.

Final verdict: Ticks all the boxes for a premium fixed-blade knife without breaking the bank.
