The Drop: DSPTCH Ruckpacks

It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

Today’s military rucksack has come a long way since the German Army made it a part of their standard equipment during World War I, but its core characteristics have remained unchanged. Featuring a large main compartment with multiple smaller pockets, the rucksack was designed to be as functional and comfortable as possible, capable of storing essential gear while protecting them from harsh environments. As a modern take on the classic military rucksack, the DSPTCH Ruckpack continues its evolution using durable, high-quality materials and a minimalist design to make it a top choice for those seeking a sleek and functional everyday carry backpack.

25 liters of space is a nice sweet spot for a pack that accommodates all your daily essentials. It’s large enough to store things like a change of clothes after the gym but compact enough not to make you feel encumbered while still having enough space to pack for a weekend away. A dedicated laptop compartment provides a safe and secure space for your laptop or tablet, accommodating devices up to 16″.

In terms of organization, the DSPTCH Ruckpack boasts several small pockets perfect for storing your phone, wallet, keys, and other accessories. With its panel-loading design, you can easily access the main compartment without rummaging through your belongings. This quick and hassle-free access ensures you can grab what you need on the go, saving you precious time.

One feature of the DSPTCH Ruckpack that stands out to me is its expandable top with an elastic drawstring design, protected by a lid that houses two quick-access pockets. This allows additional storage capacity if needed and offers an easy way to access your frequently used items. Multiple points of adjustment including load lifters, a sternum strap, and compression straps for the main compartment also means I can dial in the bag for every packing situation.

The Ruckpack is available in various high-quality materials, but the two that caught my eye are the DYNEEMA and ECOPAK variants. The Ruckpack – ECOPAK is constructed with 100% recycled 450D ripstop fabric as its face fabric, similar to X-Pac, a popular material choice used in the world’s best camping and hiking backpacks. However, those looking for greater weight savings and protection against the elements should check out the Ruckpack – DYNEEMA. It’s crafted with Dyneema Composite Fabric, valued for its high tensile strength and lightweight characteristics. The DYNEEMA variant also comes with YKK Aquaguard zippers for added water resistance.

What we like: The new Ruckpacks offer excellent durability and water resistance, ensuring your belongings stay safe even in challenging conditions while remaining comfortable to carry.

What to watch out for: If you prefer a wide variety of colors, you might find the selection somewhat restrictive, with black as the only option. Cutting-edge technical fabrics also don’t come cheap, reflecting these bags’ prices.

Final verdict: DSPTCH always delivers with its technical offerings, and the Ruckpacks are a solid option for your next EDC bag.
