You might wonder if investing in a high-quality water bottle is worth it. After all, water already comes packaged, and you could find cheaper options if you want to fill your own bottle. However, that might not be a good trade. If you opt for a standard bottle, you'll likely end up with a lukewarm beverage that might even come with unwanted tastes. It could also be clunky to handle and carry.

But most importantly, we all know where millions of plastic bottles end up: in the ocean. Even without other drawbacks, this alone should make everyone reconsider their choice.

Personally, investing in an insulated stainless steel water bottle has proven to be a game-changer. It serves as a reliable, reusable container for any occasion. Whether I want to carry hot coffee or ice-cold water, my stainless steel bottle ensures freshness, much like a thermos. The best part? I get to do my bit to preserve the environment. Here's a rundown of some of the best water bottles I’ve come across.

While it might look pretty, the Zojirushi Stainless Steel Mug is for more than just show. Made from a combination of stainless steel and BPA-free plastic, it's a bottle I can use every day. The interior is coated with NonStick, which makes it easy to clean and prevents it from retaining any unwanted tastes. Its vacuum insulation can provide up to six hours of temperature retention. But what I think truly makes this steel mug special is its unique 2-step lid. It's designed to allow any built-up condensation to fall back into the mug instead of spilling or going to waste. The lid also features an air vent on the mouthpiece, which works against gushing and overflowing. Finally, a safety lock prevents any accidental openings.

At the touch of a button, it starts and completes its cleaning process in 60 seconds. It activates every two hours to keep your bottle clean and odor-free. It also includes insulation to keep your liquids cool for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours. It recharges via micro-USB, and on a full charge, it gives about a month's worth of self-cleaning.

I've used Zojirushi for a couple decades now. Not one of them is broken not one of them has leaked. A thoughtful touch to their design is that when you release the lid it gets gently caught in (what I assume is) a tight spot in the hinge so that it doesn't hit hard and eventually break. I thought this was a very thoughtful design feature and told me that they were designing for the long term and not a disposable product. But this isn't the real thoughtful part that made me a lifetime customer. When you push on the lever to open the lid it opens a fraction of an inch and gets hooked in a very deliberate way when you let go of the lever it opens the rest of the way. It took me a while to figure out WHY they were doing this. But the silicon seal that they use compresses and gives a good tight seal but when the lid was released without this feature it would cause the lid to swing back harder and eventually would break the hinge. By building in this extra feature which took some time and engineering in finesse to get right I'm sure, they made a product that lasts.
