From tackling harsh writing deadlines to punching through glass in cases of emergency, the Impromptu—true to its name—prepares you for the unexpected. As a jotter, it uses weather-resistant Rite in the Rain ink cartridges that write in all conditions, deployed with a reliable push-button clicky switch. Its machined steel body is thick and beefy, but apply force to its glass-breaking tempered tip and you can thrust through any trouble. Deep grooves in the body help with grip, and a Cerakote ceramic coating keeps its finish durable and resilient. Its stainless steel pocket clip also lets you easily carry the Impromptu for EDC.

When you think of a stainless steel retractable ballpoint pen, it’s hard not to envision the Parker Jotter. This is the quintessential design that’s been around for ages, and continues to provide value and performance to this day. The stainless steel body comes in a shape familiar to most, and it also comes in other variants that feature different colors and materials. Inside, it usually comes with the ubiquitous blue Parker Quinkflow refill, and because that shape and design has become an industry standard of sorts, it can be converted into a gel pen or a write-anywhere pen by changing refills. To keep it always within reach, it comes with the easily recognizable arrow-shaped pocket clip. Finally, it deploys and retracts with that satisfying, loud, and solid click.

You have access to a 3.6" long Sandvik stainless steel knife, perfect for everyday cutting tasks. The addition of a pair of scissors allows you to do more delicate and precise cuts if needed. But the practicality doesn’t stop there—you get 12 other functions to help you out. It features two different screwdrivers, a can opener, a bottle opener, a smaller blade, Victorinox’s signature toothpick and tweezers and even a corkscrew to open up a nice bottle of wine during a picnic, just to name a few.

Building on the legendary reliability its firearm namesake is known for, the Cold Steel AK-47 is a tank of a knife with a 3.5“ S35VN clip point blade deployed via patented thumb plate and locked in place with the brand's signature Tri-Ad lock. This blade shape gives it the versatility to be proficient at nearly every cutting task, while still having a precise point for delicate slices. A black DLC coating on the blade further boosts its corrosion resistance and keeps the overall aesthetic low profile. The AK-47’s beefy, texturized handles are made out of G-10 for an enhanced grip, even while wet. They also feature an ergonomic shape, featuring multiple finger grooves along with an extended bottom positioned at an angle, making it even harder for the knife to slip from your hands.

The Gerber Prybrid Utility re-engineers the standard box cutter, offering the convenience of standard replaceable blades while also featuring seven other functions. A steel-cased slide mechanism deploys and retracts the blade smoothly, and fully extending it allows for quick and easy blade replacement. The spine of the tool provides a rigid platform for a prybar, while integrating a wire stripper, a nail puller, flathead drivers, and an always useful bottle opener. Under the tool there’s a cord cutter notch that allows you to sever cordage or webbing without having to deploy the main blade. All of this is sandwiched between textured and tough G10 scales that help with handling and grip.

Unlike the more familiar Sharpie permanent markers, the Stainless Steel Pen features a more compact but premium metal body, giving it a nice heft along with a smooth surface for a sleeker look and performance compared to its regular plastic counterpart. It remains easy to use like a normal Sharpie marker, with a simple and postable steel cap. This pen features a 0.8mm tip designed to lay down Sharpie’s acid-free ink smoothly. This property makes it hard to fade, quick to dry, and prevents it from bleeding through the paper. At 0.63 oz and with the addition of a pocket clip, this premium pen will be a joy to carry and write with.
Ruike

The Ruike P801 is clear evidence that sometimes less is more. However, a simple construction doesn’t mean a cheap knife, and that much is clear with the P801’s choice of steel for its blade, Sandvik 14C28N. This steel features a 58-60 HRC with added chromium, perfect for applications that demand a lot from edge durability and corrosion resistance. The stainless steel handles are home to a frame lock that keeps the blade in place after you’ve deployed it via its flipper tab or thumb stud. Last but not least, blue accents on the thumb stud, pocket clip, and pivot collar give it that pop of color that lets it stand out from its budget knife peers. The P801 is an original design from a brand under Fenix's banner with solid features at an even better price.

It’s proven to be a reliable cutter and slicer, handling everyday tasks and more. The blade deploys via the brand’s trademark Round Hole and retracts via the pinch-style Compression Lock into stainless steel liners clad in grippy textured G-10 scales. The handle shape and finger choil make the Para Military 2 an ergonomic knife to use regardless of your hand size, and this may be one of the best things about it.
