While they aren’t the first “smart” wearable glasses to hit the market, the Nreal Air AR Glasses pack enough features and practical usability to make them a genuine hit. The idea is simple: plug them into a supported device, such as your mobile phone or portable gaming device, and the Nreal Air AR Glasses mirror the display onto its 3840×1080 micro-OLED panels, allowing you to enjoy your content as if they were projected on to a 201” HDTV screen in front of you. Internal speakers hidden in the glasses’ stems allow you to enjoy whatever you’re watching with immersive audio, though you can also opt to use your own wireless earbuds for more privacy. The frames can be adjusted three ways, allowing you to pick an optimal viewing angle.
Unlike bulky, awkward designs seen in previous smart specs, the Nreal Air could easily pass for everyday sunglasses, featuring a modern, comfortable, and lightweight design. You wouldn’t look out of place wearing them on your commute home, though you do need to hook them up to your device via a USB-C to USB-C cable, which is included in the box. If you wear prescription glasses, the Nreal Air comes with an optional attachment that can be fitted with prescription lenses. Since the Nreal Air doesn’t have its own power supply, it relies on your device’s juice to power itself. While this means your device’s battery will drain quicker than normal, it’s a fair compromise to maintain the Nreal Air’s sleek, portable design. You can access AR features through the Nebula app, such as a virtual multi-monitor setup that allows you to multitask through various windows. You can stream a YouTube video in one window, look up a recipe in another, and group chat with your friends in a third.
What we like: Surely, we aren’t the only ones who’ve fantasized about having a 201” TV four feet away from our face to consume content on. Oh, and be able to take said TV with us anywhere.
What to watch out for: The price of admission isn’t cheap, with an SRP of $379.
