The Rook is one such light that has us excited, as it ticks a lot of boxes for an everyday light and offers tremendous value for its cost. It’s a collaboration between esteemed flashlight maker Reylight and Vosteed Knives, an up-and-coming brand with more than a few unique designs in their stable and already a number of collaborations under their belt, including the Rook.
Like its namesake, they’ve designed the Rook in appearance and capability to be a rock-solid backbone of your EDC, and they’ve certainly hit the mark on several enthusiast features. It comes with the latest and greatest Nichia 519A high CRI LED able to output up to 1,800 lumens, TIR optics behind a sapphire lens, and a simple but efficient programmable interface. You also get a lot of nice-to-haves like an 18350 cell with USB-C charging, an IPX7 waterproof rating, and even slots within its aluminum crenellations for up to 7 tritium vials.
It’s a complete compact package, and really, for just about $70 in their fully funded Kickstarter campaign, one of the better modern lights you can pick up today.
What we like: Thoughtful enthusiast features, excellent size to power ratio, nice array of colorways, and did we mention it was $69, nice. It’s also blown well past its goal for the campaign, and already ships out next month.
