It's a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.

The new Streamlight Wedge XT is a compact, rechargeable EDC flashlight with a unique form factor that makes it excel as a tactical light without looking like one at first glance. The deep carry pocket clip allows you to carry it like an EDC folding knife, and you'll always have it ready. Operating the light with its rear tail switch is easy, even offhand if you carry another tool in an emergency.

And unlike some other lights that take on a unique look or use case, the Streamlight Wedge XT benefits from the decades of experience Streamlight has in making superior lights that people rely on in hazardous situations daily. The Wedge XT is a winning design, mated with a 500-lumen brightness out the front and a built-in USB-C rechargeable lithium polymer cell that can run for 11 hours on its lowest setting in a pinch. And like most Streamlight button activation lights, you can utilize the FIVE-/TEN-TAP system to lock out and reprogram the Low/High mode configuration, respectively.

What we like: Carrying your EDC flashlight like a folding pocket knife and having it be as slim and lightweight (at 2.62 ounces) as one is a significant upside to carrying the Wedge. Few other lights attempt this, and fewer execute it well as Streamlight has done here.

What to watch out for: The XT seems like a downgrade from the original Streamlight Wedge if you look at things from a spec sheet (and functionality—the rotary interface will be missed) perspective. But the design and bombproof construction make it best when offhand light in conjunction with a duty firearm. And the lower brightness is favored in that use because it is not so blindingly bright that it ruins your low-light visual adaptation.

Final verdict: The Streamlight Wedge XT's unique form factor and utility make it a compelling choice if its design matches the rest of your everyday carry needs.
