SOG Aegis FLK

Sometimes all it takes to get the job done is no-frills, utilitarian knife without all the bells and whistles. And when that's the case, you shouldn't have to pay more for features you might not need. That's what SOG's newest knives aim to do: deliver the essential SOG knife experience at a more accessible price point. The Aegis FLK debuts as a budget friendly, entry-level version of one of SOG's best tactical knife designs. With its full metal construction, fast deployment and practical blade, it delivers excellent value for new EDCers and veterans alike.

While the Aegis FLK serves as a budget version of one of SOG's best models, it still packs EDC-friendly features you won't find even on its premium predecessor. For starters, the Aegis FLK opts for a fully manual deployment as opposed to the original's assisted open. To give it that smooth, quick deployment, SOG equipped the FLK with a rear flipper tab as well as dual thumb studs. It's an excellent alternative for EDCers who can't carry assisted knives but still want fast access to their blade.

Unlike the original Aegis's piston lock, the FLK secures with a more familiar frame lock built into the knife's stainless steel handles. The blade itself closely resembles the original, measuring 3.4” long with a plain edge and 8Cr13MoV steel. Its drop point shape, full belly and flat grind make it a practical slicer with plenty of cutting edge to work with. Jimping on the spine and lock bar add grip to an otherwise sleek handle, while the flipper tab also acts as a finger guard to let you really grasp the knife.

The Aegis FLK features a deep, tip-up carry pocket clip to manage the knife's 5.2 oz weight, as well as a slim profile to easily slip into the pocket. If you've been wanting to try a SOG knife on a budget and prefer a sleeker style to their other offerings, the Aegis FLK is definitely worth a look, especially with its low cost of admission. SOG Terminus XR

When the original Terminus was released, it showed that SOG could deliver on an urban, everyday knife that broke free from the aggressive, tactical stylings the company was best known for. The sleek slipjoint was subtle, discreet, and designed to perform well for EDC. The new SOG Terminus XR takes the original's foundations and beefs them up in every way for EDC, from premium materials, versatile deployment, to an all-new locking mechanism that makes it even smoother to operate. The Terminus XR finishes what its predecessor started, earning its spot as a rock-solid choice for an all-around, high-performance knife.

A modern design with updated features and quality construction using premium materials come together to make the Terminus XR a knife built to handle most EDC tasks. For starters, its handles are made from G10 and carbon fiber, a robust combination that offers an exceptional strength to weight ratio. Together they provide excellent durability while allowing both enough texture via milled out grooves to give ample grip in hand and smooth retrieval from your pockets. Skeletonized stainless steel liners also serve as the backbone of the XR lock while keeping the handles lightweight and balanced.

The Terminus XR's namesake lock mechanism offers versatility not only in securing the blade, but deploying it too, letting you get to the cutting action in three different ways. A jimped flipper tab found on the back allows traditional high-speed deployment, with the blade flipping out with a nice and smooth flick and closing with a satisfying snap. Dual thumb studs allows ambidextrous handling as its second approach, uncommon on knives where a flipper is present. Finally, disengaging the XR lock itself (built with two spring-loaded latches found on both sides of the knife) allows the blade to slip out freely. Once deployed, its 2.95” blade capably handles both piercing and general slicing tasks thanks to a clip point geometry and premium CTS BDZ1 steel, known for its outstanding hardness and edge retention to stand up to daily use.

If you're looking for a practical knife that offers a sleek appearance and great performance, all without breaking the bank, then the SOG Terminus XR is a great place to start. Grab one today by visiting the link below.

SOG KeyTron

The best gear is the stuff you have with you. And in terms of convenience and 24/7 access, it's hard to beat your keychain. So if you're finding yourself needing a real knife and a bottle opener once in a while, the new KeyTron from SOG might just be what you're looking for. It's a fresh take on the keychain knife with a design that puts its cutting functionality first and foremost. Unlike other keychain-friendly knives, the KeyTron has full-sized features like a lockback mechanism and quick-release keyring built right in.

Just by looking at the KeyTron's utilitarian design, you can tell it's meant to be used like a real folding knife. This manual folder deploys with two hands using an elongated thumb hole/nail nick and secures via a lockback mechanism. The KeyTron's 1.8” long, 5Cr15MoV clip point blade gives you a decent amount of knife to work with for quick everyday cutting tasks, too. With knives on the smaller side like this, a lock mechanism is especially helpful for your fingers since there's less generally less of a handle to get a grip on.

But despite all its features adopted from full-sized knives, it's still got what it takes to hang with the rest of your keys. For starters, it weighs just 1.3 oz and it's exceptionally thin to avoid awkward keychain bulge. Its built-in bottle opener can replace the one you might already carry, keeping your keyring's bulk to a minimum. Last but not least, it sports an integrated keyring that doubles as extra grip for when you're using the knife. For added convenience, it can open with a deliberate push of a button on the knife itself, sparing your fingernails from prying open split rings.

If you can get by with a keychain folder in your EDC, definitely consider the new KeyTron and what its extra features have to offer. Check it out at the link below.
